[WHAT ARE THE EARTHQUAKES?]

Earthquakes are primarily caused by the movement of tectonic plates, which make up the Earth's outer shell or lithosphere. There are three main types of plate boundaries where earthquakes occur:

1. Divergent Boundaries

2. Convergent Boundaries

3. Transform Boundaries

Apart from tectonic activity, earthquakes can also be triggered by volcanic activity, such as the movement of magma within a volcano, or by human activities like mining, reservoir-induced seismicity (caused by the filling of large reservoirs behind dams), and hydraulic fracturing (fracking) for oil and gas extraction. These human-induced earthquakes are typically less powerful than natural ones but can still cause damage and pose risks to nearby communities.

Overall, earthquakes are complex geological phenomena caused by the movement of tectonic plates or other geological processes, and they can have significant impacts on human societies and the environment.

[EARTHQUAKES TODAY]

Earthquakes have long been among the most devastating natural disasters, wreaking havoc and profoundly impacting human lives. Whether large or small, these seismic events disrupt normalcy and tragically claim lives. Notable historical earthquakes, such as the Indonesia Earthquake in 2004, the China Earthquake in 2008, and the India Earthquake in 2001, serve as grim reminders of the destructive power of nature. More recently, the earthquake in Japan's Ishikawa province, registering at a formidable 7.6 magnitude and accompanied by over 1,200 aftershocks, resulted in a staggering death toll of 200 people.

These events underscore the profound and tragic effects earthquakes can have on human communities. Below, we have compiled articles covering earthquakes in Asia to provide further insight into these seismic occurrences. Take a moment to explore and learn more about this critical topic.
