Before air conditioners existed, Vietnamese people always carried a fan.
Not just to cool down — but also as part of daily life, art, and culture.
Fans appeared in traditional dance, poetry, and even love stories.
Today, many handmade fans are still made by artisans in small villages in Vietnam.

Near Hanoi, there is a small village called Chàng Sơn.
For generations, families there have been making handmade bamboo fans.
Each fan is made from bamboo, paper, and careful handwork.
When you open the fan, you can even hear the special “clap” sound that artisans are proud of.
Traditional crafts like this are slowly disappearing — but they still carry so many beautiful stories.

My name is Duyên.

Today is March 8th – a beautiful day celebrating women. We all deserve love, care, and happiness.

Today, I decided to do something special for myself: to finally start a project that I have been thinking about for a long time.

I was born and raised in Northern Vietnam, a place rich in traditions and craft villages. I have always loved handmade products and deeply respect the cultural values behind them.

During my journey exploring traditional craft villages, I had the chance to visit Chàng Sơn fan village. The moment I arrived, I felt a strange sense of familiarity and peace.

The handmade bamboo fans reminded me of childhood memories – the image of a grandmother gently fanning her grandchildren on hot summer afternoons, or during nights without electricity.

Those simple memories inspired me to start this journey:
to explore and share the beauty of Chàng Sơn’s traditional craft.

In the coming days, I will share more about this journey – meeting artisans, learning about the craft, and discovering the stories behind these handmade fans.

Mình là Duyên.

Hôm nay 8/3 – một ngày thật đẹp dành cho tất cả chị em phụ nữ. Chúng ta xứng đáng được yêu thương và hạnh phúc.

Và hôm nay mình cũng quyết định làm một điều đặc biệt cho chính bản thân mình: bắt đầu một dự án mà mình đã ấp ủ từ rất lâu. ^^

Là một người sinh ra và lớn lên ở miền Bắc, nơi có rất nhiều phong tục, tập quán và làng nghề truyền thống, mình luôn dành một sự yêu thích đặc biệt cho những sản phẩm thủ công. Mình trân trọng những giá trị văn hoá ấy và luôn mong muốn chúng được gìn giữ, lan toả nhiều hơn.

Trong hành trình tìm hiểu và trải nghiệm các làng nghề, mình đã có dịp ghé thăm "làng quạt Chàng Sơn". Nơi đây mang lại cho mình một cảm giác quen thuộc và bình yên đến lạ thường.

Những chiếc quạt nan khiến mình nhớ đến hình ảnh người bà giữa trưa hè oi ả, hay những đêm mất điện, bà nhẹ nhàng phe phẩy chiếc quạt cho đàn cháu nhỏ ngủ ngon.

Chính những ký ức rất giản dị ấy đã thôi thúc mình bắt đầu hành trình "khám phá và lan toả vẻ đẹp của làng nghề Chàng Sơn".

Trong thời gian tới, mình sẽ chia sẻ hành trình tìm hiểu, gặp gỡ nghệ nhân và những trải nghiệm thú vị xoay quanh làng nghề này.
