3. Activities in the Month
3.1 On 1 December 2025, Hanoi Medical University (the University) issued Decision No. 10078/QD-DHYHN approving the award of SympaMed Circular Scholarship to 15 of its students and resident doctors (hereinafter collectively referred to as students). Only two days later, on 3 December 2025, the students named in the above Decision received their SympaMed scholarship for the first month of the 2025-2026 academic year. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the leaders of the University and teachers in the Office of Student and Resident Doctor Affairs and Dormitory Management for their enthusiastic and professional assistance to enable the students to receive the support of the community.
3.2 Our initial plan had been to provide SympaMed scholarships to only 10 students at Hanoi Medical University in the academic year 2025-2026. However, after reviewing the profiles and interviewing the 15 students recommended by the University, we found that all of them were under really difficult circumstances while trying very hard to continue their studies. Therefore, we decided to grant scholarships to all the 15 students even though at the time we agreed this with the University, the balance in SympaMed's account was not even enough to cover the costs for 3 of them. However, we believed that we would receive the necessary support from the community who recognises the importance of good doctors to the society as well as appreciates the efforts and circumstances of these students. Indeed, as we had hoped, in the month of December alone, SympaMed received the support from 17 donors, including individuals, families, groups of friends and organizations both at home and abroad.
In particular, this month, among all the contributions from our kind-hearted donors were two very generous donations from the Murray Foundation, which is a Foundation set up by Mr. Ross Murray in memory of his late son, Graham. The Murray Foundation has been a regular donor of SympaMeals for many years, and they have now been kind enough to also support SympaMed Circular Scholarship. These donations will help us cover part of the funds required for our SympaMeders this academic year and sponsor additional students for the next intake. We are very grateful to the Murray Foundation, as well as all other donors, for their wonderful support.
We truly appreciate the trust that our donors have placed in SympaMed. Your support will help our SympaMed students to have better living conditions, enabling them to study better and become better doctors in the future.
3.3. On Sunday, 7 December 2025, SympaMed scholarship recipients enjoyed a warm and joyful gathering on the theme of love and music. This was also the first opportunity for the second cohort of SympaMeders (academic year 2025–2026) to meet the Cohort 1 recipients and the founders of SympaMed. Despite the many challenges these students have been facing, they demonstrated to us their positive spirit, optimism, and openness in sharing about their lives and journeys.
3.4 On the last Sunday of the year, 28 December 2025, SympaMed scholarship recipients and GES scholarship recipients held their third sharing session. During this workshop, future doctors shared their knowledge on first aid for fractures, sprains, and muscle cramps, while law students and young lawyers introduced the topic of Legitimate Self Defence.
Our medical students shared that the last few workshops with law students had provided them with a great deal of useful knowledge beyond their field of study—knowledge that is highly practical as they prepare to enter the workforce. Topics such as personal income tax calculations, probation periods, and labor contract signing were especially valuable. On the other hand, the law students and young lawyers from GES also learnt essential first aid skills.
More importantly, these sessions were also joyful opportunities for making connections, helping the students reduce the stress from their studies and broaden their personal networks.
Thank you for reading our newsletter. We wish you a great 2026 ahead!
