3. Activities in the Month

3.1 On 1 December 2025, Hanoi Medical University (the University) issued Decision No. 10078/QD-DHYHN approving the award of SympaMed Circular Scholarship to 15 of its students and resident doctors (hereinafter collectively referred to as students). Only two days later, on 3 December 2025, the students named in the above Decision received their SympaMed scholarship for the first month of the 2025-2026 academic year. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the leaders of the University and teachers in the Office of Student and Resident Doctor Affairs and Dormitory Management for their enthusiastic and professional assistance to enable the students to receive the support of the community.

3.2 Our initial plan had been to provide SympaMed scholarships to only 10 students at Hanoi Medical University in the academic year 2025-2026. However, after reviewing the profiles and interviewing the 15 students recommended by the University, we found that all of them were under really difficult circumstances while trying very hard to continue their studies. Therefore, we decided to grant scholarships to all the 15 students even though at the time we agreed this with the University, the balance in SympaMed's account was not even enough to cover the costs for 3 of them. However, we believed that we would receive the necessary support from the community who recognises the importance of good doctors to the society as well as appreciates the efforts and circumstances of these students. Indeed, as we had hoped, in the month of December alone, SympaMed received the support from 17 donors, including individuals, families, groups of friends and organizations both at home and abroad.

In particular, this month, among all the contributions from our kind-hearted donors were two very generous donations from the Murray Foundation, which is a Foundation set up by Mr. Ross Murray in memory of his late son, Graham. The Murray Foundation has been a regular donor of SympaMeals for many years, and they have now been kind enough to also support SympaMed Circular Scholarship. These donations will help us cover part of the funds required for our SympaMeders this academic year and sponsor additional students for the next intake. We are very grateful to the Murray Foundation, as well as all other donors, for their wonderful support.

We truly appreciate the trust that our donors have placed in SympaMed. Your support will help our SympaMed students to have better living conditions, enabling them to study better and become better doctors in the future.

3.3. On Sunday, 7 December 2025, SympaMed scholarship recipients enjoyed a warm and joyful gathering on the theme of love and music. This was also the first opportunity for the second cohort of SympaMeders (academic year 2025–2026) to meet the Cohort 1 recipients and the founders of SympaMed. Despite the many challenges these students have been facing, they demonstrated to us their positive spirit, optimism, and openness in sharing about their lives and journeys.

3.4 On the last Sunday of the year, 28 December 2025, SympaMed scholarship recipients and GES scholarship recipients held their third sharing session. During this workshop, future doctors shared their knowledge on first aid for fractures, sprains, and muscle cramps, while law students and young lawyers introduced the topic of Legitimate Self Defence.

Our medical students shared that the last few workshops with law students had provided them with a great deal of useful knowledge beyond their field of study—knowledge that is highly practical as they prepare to enter the workforce. Topics such as personal income tax calculations, probation periods, and labor contract signing were especially valuable. On the other hand, the law students and young lawyers from GES also learnt essential first aid skills.

More importantly, these sessions were also joyful opportunities for making connections, helping the students reduce the stress from their studies and broaden their personal networks.

Thank you for reading our newsletter. We wish you a great 2026 ahead!

Our medical students and resident doctors have been sharing essential and practical first-aid knowledge with GES law scholarship recipients in 3 workshops in 2025. We hope that in 2026, this valuable medical knowledge can be shared with a wider audience, allowing SympaMed scholarship recipients to further extend the cycle of kindness throughout the community.

Personal financial management is an essential life skill for all of us. On the afternoon of Sunday, 18 January 2026, Ms. Pham Bao Khanh, PhD in Banking and Finance, an experienced educator in the field of banking and finance, will deliver a free introductory session on this topic for SympaMed scholarship recipients and GES scholarship members. We hope this presentation will help our students and trainees learn how to manage their finances more effectively and confidently.

In addition, we warmly invite donors and professionals with relevant skills, knowledge, and experience to support our SympaMed students, so that alongside medical training, they can also develop essential soft skills that contribute to a higher quality of life in the future.

Today, the SympaMed team held our first monthly meeting of 2026, and it was truly warm and joyful. We shared everyday stories — whose house has a cat, who had a quarrel with a loved one and then made up, who just welcomed a new baby from her cousin into the family — as well as deeper concerns about final exams, the health of parents and grandparents, and the ups and downs of studying and hospital duties. Alongside these worries were many small, precious joys from daily life and our journeys in learning and service. You will be able to read more details in our January 2026 newsletter.

Since it was our first time hosting, we did not remember to take a screenshot at the end of the session, and thus missed out a few SympaMeders who had to leave early. Next time, we should remember to capture the moment where everyone was present right from the beginning.

Wishing you all a Happy 2026!

3. Activities in the Reporting Period

3.1 September 2025

After a year of piloting scholarships for 13 students and resident doctors (hereinafter collectively referred to as “students”) at Hanoi Medical University, SympaMed Circular Scholarship was officially launched in Hanoi on 26 September 2025. The launch coincided with the 20th anniversary of SympaMeals – a charity supporting poor patients (which has the same founders as does SympaMed), making it a meaningful “two-in-one” event. Faculty members of Hanoi Medical University and first-year SympaMed scholarship recipients attended the ceremony, shared their reflections on the program, and expressed their heartfelt thoughts during the event.

We are deeply moved by the trust and generosity of many donors who contributed to SympaMed at the launch and in the time that followed, even though the procedures for awarding scholarships for the 2025–2026 academic year were not completed until early December 2025.

3.2 October 2025

The donation to help T., a resident doctor of SympaMed for the 2024-2025 school year, have funds to replace her prosthetic leg has received the enthusiastic support of 21 donors. In a very short time, VND 34,700,000 and loving messages were sent to SympaMed's account for T. Only 2 days after the call, VND 20,600,000 was transferred to T. to help her order a new leg. In addition, Ms. Thanh Binh, a lecturer and doctor from Hanoi Medical University also connected T. to Viet Duc Hospital, Rehabilitation Department for examination, preparation for a new prosthetic leg and also learning to walk with it.

3.3 November 2025

3.3.1 Continued Support for T.

On 19 November 2025, with the consent of the donors, the remaining donation to T. of VND 14,100,000 was transferred to her personal account to help her pay part of the tuition fee.

3.3.2 SympaMed and GES Workshops

When SympaMed Circular Scholarship was started, our hope was that in a few years, once the scholarship recipients graduate and become doctors, they would be able to give back to the community — and to SympaMed itself — so that its values could continue to spread. But we didn’t have to wait that long. Kindness has already begun to circulate. Our SympaMed students are now using their medical knowledge to equip others with essential first-aid skills.

One of this year’s activities is to hold exchange workshops between SympaMed medical students and lawyers and law students receiving the Globalised Era Scholarship (GES). In these workshops, medical students share useful health information, while law students provide basic legal knowledge. As shown in the attached schedule, several of these information-sharing sessions have been planned for the coming months. We hope that after a period of trial, these sessions will reach beyond the GES community, bringing practical healthcare knowledge to more people.

At the first workshop on 2 November 2025, SympaMed’s future doctors shared valuable knowledge about emergency circulatory arrest, including safety principles, initial assessment, airway clearance, proper positioning, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation techniques. From the GES side, lawyers and law students provided practical information for those preparing to enter the workforce — such as important notes on probation, documentation, and labor contract signing. They also discussed several real-life scenarios involving labor disputes that medical professionals might encounter during their practice.

In the second exchange session on 30 November 2025, medical students, law students, and young lawyers discussed topics such as personal income tax, first aid for severe injuries, and pain-relief massage techniques. In addition to gaining valuable knowledge, the young participants also enjoyed moments of relaxation and connection — something we truly hope will help ease the pressure they face in these two highly demanding fields.

Thank you for reading the newsletter. Wishing you and your family good health and good luck.

On Sunday 7 December 2025, our SympaMed scholarship recipients gathered for an intimate and joyful meeting, discussing love and music. This was also the first time that our second cohort of SympaMeders (academic year 2025–2026) had the opportunity to meet the first cohort recipients and also the founders of SympaMed, following the disbursement of their first month’s scholarship on 3 December 2025.

The workshops of the SympaMed Circular Scholarship recipients and the GES Scholarship recipients were not only useful but also very fun and interesting :)

Today, 1 December 2025, Hanoi Medical University issued Decision No. 10078/QD-HYHN approving the award of the SympaMed Circular Scholarship to 15 of its students and resident trainees. We are also pleased to announce that SympaMed’s current account balance has increased to VND 146,642,506.

In addition to the three students whose scholarships are promised to be fully sponsored for the entire academic year, we still need to raise VND 213,358,000 to support the remaining twelve students over the next ten months, beginning this December.

We sincerely hope that you and your friends will continue to join hands with us in supporting these future doctors who are still facing many difficulties. Whether your contribution is small or large, given once or given regularly each month, every act of generosity is precious. It represents our shared compassion for those who will one day save countless lives.

Wishing everyone an enjoyable and meaningful exchange!
