💘 Is love at first sight real? (According to science)
A National Geographic article suggests that love at first sight isn’t just a movie cliché — it’s a real phenomenon, though not very common. Interestingly, what makes us “fall in love instantly” comes from the brain, not the heart.
When we feel attracted to someone, the brain releases chemicals like adrenaline (which makes your heart race and body react) and dopamine (the “feel-good” hormone that creates pleasure and strong memories). Humans are also incredibly good at forming quick impressions — often within seconds — based on physical appearance, facial expressions, and nonverbal cues like eye contact or a smile.
Sometimes, instant attraction happens because of a psychological experience called “I-sharing,” when two people feel they share the same moment or perspective, creating an immediate sense of connection.
However, scientists emphasize that this initial attraction does not predict long-term relationship success. Lasting love takes time, deeper understanding, and meaningful connection.
In short, the spark may be instant, but real love grows over time.
