In the Red River Basin, rapid land use changes are threatening water resources. cause pollution, ecosystem degradation, increasing greenhouse gas emissions, floods and droughts. More inclusive development of land and water resources is possible with interventions such as sustainable urban drainage, agroforestry and minimum tillage. However, trade-offs between land development and riverine ecosyste
ms remain. It is a challenge to quantify the impact of interventions, to feed this knowledge into regional and national planning systems and to incorporate more inclusive practices into private sector investments. The MK27 project, “Inclusive development paths for healthy Red River landscapes based on ecosystem services “ shall address these challenges in the coming two years. The consortium for this project consists of the National Centre for Water Resources Planning and Investigation (NAWAPI), Institute of Water Resources Planning (IWRP),Thuy loi University (former WRU), Hanoi University of Natural Resources and Environment (HUNRE), GreenID, VinWater, International Water Management Institute (IWMI), UNESCO-IHE and Delft University of Technology (TU Delft). A team of more than 15 researchers and students is very enthusiastic and determined to pay a significant contribution to a healthy and productive living environment for people living in the Red River.
