HANOI TO HOST INTERNATIONAL PUPPETRY FESTIVAL

Have you ever heard about “water puppetry”- an extremely unique traditional art form of Vietnam? We’re sure that you will be very surprised at the water puppet performances.
Colorful puppets are made out of wood and then lacquered. The shows are performed in a waist-deep pool. Large rods support the puppets under the water and are used by skillful puppeteers, who are normally hidden behind a screen, to control them. Thus the puppets appear to be moving over the water.
Originated in the Red River Delta area of northern Vietnam, the theme of the puppetry performances has a strong reference to Vietnamese folklore. It tells day-to-day living in rural area and Vietnamese folk tales, stories of the harvest, of fishing and of festivals with a humorous twist. Legends and national history are also highlighted.
A traditional Vietnamese orchestra provides background music accompaniment. The instrumentation includes vocals, drums, wooden bells, cymbals, horns, monochord, gongs, and bamboo flutes. Singers of "chèo" (a form of opera originating in northern Vietnam) sing songs which tell the story being acted out by the puppets. The musicians and the puppets interact during performance.

HAPPY VIETNAM INDEPENDENCE DAY

Today, all Vietnamese people celebrate their 70th National Independence Day, Sept 2nd.

70 years ago, Sept 2nd, 1945 was a very important historical and political mark of Vietnamese people. At Ba Dinh Square, President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, officially claiming the independence and sovereignty of Vietnam from French colonial force and opening a new epoch of independence, freedom and happiness.

Since then, Vietnamese celebrates this meaningful occasion nationwide with series of activities annually. A notable sign for the cheerful spirit of this day is the appearance of Vietnam flags everywhere coloring the whole country with lively red backgrounds and jovial yellow stars. The streets are exploded with a boom of red and yellow banners of celebrations and oversized posters of Uncle Ho speaking into a microphone in 1945.

There is also a marching on the Ba Dinh Square and fireworks in the major cities of Vietnam. In Hanoi, people can enjoy fireworks at 5 places: Sword lake, Thong Nhat Park, My Dinh National Stadium, Nguyen Hoang Ton park and HoVan Quan park.

Other activities such as visiting Monuments of heroic martyrs, honoring veterans and heroic mothers, meetings with witnesses to history and talks on local traditions will be organized in localities as well.

2015, July 30th,a representative from FPT University had attended a talk show about admission to FPT University, Vietnam at a local radio station in Lagos, Nigeria. During the talk show, hundreds of callers called to him, asking for further information, mostly about the programs that FPT University offers, costs and fees, number of international students, accommodation, etc. Each caller was given a detailed answer to his question and the responses in general were satisfied.
