Comedian Charlie Chaplin once shared:
"When I was a child, there was a time I went to the circus with my father. We stood in line to buy tickets. In front of us was a poor family with six children. The kids were excitedly talking about the circus. When it was their turn, the father approached the counter and asked about ticket prices. When the clerk told him the amount, the father whispered to his wife with visible discomfort.
I saw my father take $20 out of his pocket, drop it on the ground, then bend down, pick it up, place a hand on the man’s shoulder, and say: 'Sir, you dropped this.' The man looked at my father, eyes filled with tears, and said: 'Thank you, Sir!'
After they went in, my father held my hand and led me away from the line — because he only had $20, the same amount he had just given that man. From that day on, I felt proud of my father. That moment was the most beautiful performance I had ever witnessed in my life."
Charlie Chaplin, the king of silent comedy, lived to be 88 years old. He left us with four memorable reflections:
Nothing is permanent in this world — not even our troubles.
I love walking in the rain, because no one can see my tears.
The day we lose the most is the day we don’t laugh.
The six best doctors in the world are: sunlight, rest, exercise, diet, self-respect, and friends.
