Yersin University of Da Lat, in collaboration with 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐁𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 (𝐄𝐒𝐁𝐁), is delighted to introduce 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫 𝐑𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐍𝐮𝐧𝐧, founder of ESBB and a distinguished scholar in English language education, intercultural communication, and international academic collaboration.
Professor Nunn retired in 2022 from his final full-time position as 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐣𝐚𝐡, following an academic career spanning 𝟒𝟔 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠. He previously worked at the Petroleum Institute—now part of Khalifa University—in Abu Dhabi, Kochi University in Japan, and Qatar University. Earlier in his career, he taught in secondary education in Qatar, Ethiopia, Germany, England, and France.
His international academic journey has taken him across Asia and the Middle East, including guest visits and scholarly engagements in India, the Philippines, Taiwan, Indonesia, Korea, Oman, Türkiye, Thailand, Iran, and China.
Professor Nunn holds an 𝐌𝐀 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐏𝐡𝐃 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐊𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐝𝐨𝐦, where his doctoral research was supervised by Professor Ron White. His work reflects a long-standing commitment to intercultural communication, holistic education, socially responsible project-based learning, phenomenology, and intercultural narrative.
In 2013, he co-founded 𝐄𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐡 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐁𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐁𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬, an international academic community promoting cross-border scholarship, respectful dialogue, creative expression, and a strong, transparent first-person scholarly voice. He continues to serve as editor of the journal English Scholarship Beyond Borders and remains actively involved in research on intercultural narrative.
Professor Nunn’s educational philosophy places learners at the centre of intellectually and emotionally engaging experiences. His concept of “𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲” explores how people may better understand themselves in relation to culturally diverse others through dialogue, creativity, reflection, and shared human experience.
Beyond academia, he is also a singer-songwriter and Chair of the 𝐒𝐲𝐥𝐯𝐢𝐞 𝐍𝐮𝐧𝐧 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭, a registered UK charity supporting intercultural understanding, inter-community relations, mental health, and music education.
We look forward to welcoming Professor Roger Nunn to the conference and learning from his extensive international experience in scholarship, education, and intercultural engagement.
Further details about his conference presentation will be announced soon. Stay tuned!
