Letting Go of the Past

Sometimes people hold on to bad memories from the past. They can't let them go. These memories affect their present life. They feel sad and can't enjoy life fully.

This story is about Alex, a 16-year-old student. He had painful memories from the past. Because of that, he couldn't focus on the present.

One day, his teacher, Mr. Carter, was teaching in class. The other students were listening and answering questions. But Alex was quiet and lost in his thoughts. Mr. Carter noticed this. He watched Alex for four or five days. Then, after class, he called Alex to his office.

When Alex came, Mr. Carter asked gently, "Son… you've been very quiet these days. Is something wrong?"

Alex found it hard to speak. "Teacher… something from the past is still hurting me."

Mr. Carter knew Alex wasn't ready to open up fully. So he smiled and said, "Come to my house this evening. We can talk there." Alex agreed.

That evening, Alex went to Mr. Carter's house. Mr. Carter welcomed him and asked him to sit down. He went into the kitchen and came back with a glass of lemonade. But he had secretly added a lot of salt.

"Try this," said Mr. Carter, handing Alex the lemonade.

Alex took a sip. Immediately, his face twisted. The salt made the lemonade taste awful.

Mr. Carter asked, "What's wrong? Don't you like it?"

Alex replied, "It's not that I don't like it, Teacher… but there's too much salt."

Mr. Carter nodded and said, "So this lemonade is ruined. Should I throw it away?"

Alex quickly said, "Don't throw it away, Teacher. Don't waste it. If we add sugar, it will taste good again."

Hearing this, Mr. Carter smiled. "That's exactly what I wanted to tell you. This lemonade is like your life. The extra salt is like the bitter memories from the past. Just like you can't take the salt out, you can't erase painful memories. But you can add sugar… you can create new happy experiences in the present and change the flavor of your life."

Alex was quiet and started to think.

Mr. Carter continued, "If you keep looking at the salt, the bitterness will never go away. But if you add joyful things to your present life, you will find happiness again. Don't let the past control your future."

From that day on, Alex decided not to hold on to the past anymore. He chose to see life from a new perspective.

Lesson

We can't change what happened in the past. But we can choose how we move forward. If we keep holding on to past pain, we ruin our today and tomorrow. Instead, we should create new happy experiences and enjoy life fully.

တစ်ခါတလေ လူတွေဟာ အတိတ်က ဆိုးတဲ့အမှတ်တရတွေကို မပစ်နိုင်ဘဲ ဆက်ကိုင်ထားမိတတ်ကြတယ်။ အဲဒါတွေက သူတို့ရဲ့ ဒီနေ့ဘဝကို လွှမ်းမိုးသွားတော့ သူတို့လည်း ဝမ်းနည်းပူဆွေးနေပြီး ဘဝကို အပြည့်အဝ မခံစားနိုင်တော့ဘူး။ ဒီဇာတ်လမ်းက အသက် ၁၆ နှစ် အရွယ် Alex ဆိုတဲ့ ကျောင်းသားတစ်ယောက်အကြောင်းပါ။ သူ့မှာ အတိတ်က ဝမ်းနည်းစရာတွေ ရှိနေလို့ ပစ္စုပ္ပန်ကို အာရုံမစိုက်နိုင်ဖြစ်နေတယ်။

တစ်နေ့တော့ အတန်းပိုင် Mr. Carter က စာသင်နေတယ်။ ကျောင်းသားတွေက နားထောင်ပြီး မေးခွန်းတွေကို စိတ်ပါလက်ပါ ဖြေနေကြတယ်။ ဒါပေမယ့် သူတို့ကြားထဲမှာ Alex ကတော့ ဘာမှမပြောဘဲ တိတ်ဆိတ်ပြီး အတွေးနစ်နေတယ်။ ဒါကို Mr. Carter က ကြိုသတိထားမိထားတာ။ လေးငါးရက်လောက် သူဘယ်လိုတိတ်ဆိတ်နေလဲ၊ တခြားကျောင်းသားတွေ ဘယ်လိုပါဝင်နေလဲ ကြည့်နေပြီးမှ စာသင်ပြီးတာနဲ့ Alex ကို ရုံးခန်းထဲ ခေါ်လိုက်တယ်။

Alex ရောက်လာတော့ ဆရာက ညင်ညင်သာသာ မေးတယ်။ "သား... မင်း ဒီရက်ပိုင်း သိပ်တိတ်ဆိတ်နေတယ်လေ။ တစ်ခုခုဖြစ်နေလို့လား။" Alex က ပြောဖို့ခက်နေတယ်။ "ဆရာ... အတိတ်က အကြောင်းတစ်ခုက ကျွန်တော့်ကို စိတ်ထိခိုက်နေတုန်းပါပဲ။"

ဆရာက သူပွင့်ပွင့်လင်းလင်း မပြောနိုင်သေးတာကို သိသွားတယ်။ ဒါနဲ့ ပြုံးပြီး "ဒီညနေ ငါ့အိမ်ကို လာခဲ့စမ်း။ အဲဒီမှာ စကားပြောကြမယ်" လို့ ဖိတ်ခေါ်တယ်။ Alex လည်း သဘောတူလိုက်တယ်။

ညနေပိုင်းရောက်တော့ Alex က ဆရာ့အိမ်ကို ရောက်သွားတယ်။ ဆရာက ကြိုဆိုပြီး ထိုင်စေလိုက်တယ်။ သူက မီးဖိုချောင်ထဲ ဝင်သွားပြီး ခဏကြာတော့ သံပရာရည်တစ်ခွက်နဲ့ ပြန်ထွက်လာတယ်။ ဒါပေမယ့် ဆရာက တမင်တကာ ဆားအများကြီး ထည့်ထားတယ်။

"ဒါလေး သောက်ကြည့်" လို့ ဆရာက သံပရာရည်ကို လှမ်းပေးတယ်။ Alex က တစ်ငုံဆောင်လိုက်တယ်။ ပြီးတာနဲ့ မျက်နှာ တွန့်သွားတယ်။ ဆားတွေက သံပရာရည်ကို သောက်လို့မဖြစ်အောင် ဖန်တီးထားတာ။

ဆရာက "ဘာဖြစ်တာလဲ။ မကြိုက်ဘူးလား" လို့ မေးတယ်။ Alex က "မကြိုက်တာမဟုတ်ဘူး ဆရာ... ဆားနည်းနည်းပိုလွန်သွားတယ်" လို့ ပြန်ဖြေတယ်။

ဆရာက ခေါင်းညိတ်ပြီး "ဒါဆိုရင် ဒီသံပရာရည် ပျက်သွားပြီပေါ့။ ပစ်လိုက်ရမလား" လို့ မေးတယ်။ Alex က ချက်ချင်းပဲ "မပစ်ပါနဲ့ ဆရာ။ အလဟသ မဖြစ်စေနဲ့။ သကြားထည့်လိုက်ရင် အရသာ ပြန်ကောင်းသွားမှာပါ" လို့ ပြောတယ်။

ဒါကိုကြားတော့ ဆရာက ပြုံးလိုက်တယ်။ "ဒါပဲ ငါမင်းကို ပြောချင်တာ။ ဒီသံပရာရည်က မင်းရဲ့ဘဝလိုပဲ။ ဆားပိုတွေက အတိတ်က ခါးသီးတဲ့ အမှတ်တရတွေပေါ့။ ဆားကို ထုတ်ပစ်လို့မရသလို အတိတ်က နာကျင်စရာတွေကိုလည်း ဖျက်ပစ်လို့မရဘူး။ ဒါပေမယ့် သကြားထည့်လို့ရတယ်... ပစ္စုပ္ပန်မှာ ပျော်ရွှင်စရာ အတွေ့အကြုံအသစ်တွေ ဖန်တီးပြီး ဘဝအရသာကို ပြောင်းလဲလို့ရတယ်။"

Alex က တိတ်တိတ်နေပြီး စဉ်းစားမိတယ်။ ဆရာက ဆက်ပြောတယ်။ "မင်းက ဆားကိုပဲ ကြည့်နေရင် ခါးသီးမှုက ဘယ်တော့မှ မပျောက်ဘူး။ ဒါပေမယ့် ဒီနေ့ဘဝမှာ ပျော်ရွှင်စရာတွေကို ထည့်ပေးရင် ပျော်ရွှင်မှုကို ပြန်ရှာတွေ့လိမ့်မယ်။ အတိတ်က မင်းရဲ့အနာဂတ်ကို မလွှမ်းမိုးပါစေနဲ့။"

ဒီနေ့ကစပြီး Alex က အတိတ်ကို စွဲကိုင်မနေတော့ဘဲ ဘဝကို ရှုထောင့်အသစ်နဲ့ ပြန်ကြည့်ဖို့ ဆုံးဖြတ်လိုက်တယ်။

有一位有钱人，住着大房子。可是每天下午，都有一群年轻人聚在他家门口，骑摩托车比赛、大声吵闹，整条街上的人都没法好好休息。
yǒu yī wèi yǒu qián rén，zhù zhe dà fáng zi。kě shì měi tiān xià wǔ，dōu yǒu yī qún nián qīng rén jù zài tā jiā mén kǒu，qí mó tuō chē bǐ sài、dà shēng chǎo nào，zhěng tiáo jiē shàng de rén dōu méi fǎ hǎo hǎo xiū xi。

有钱人没有和他们吵架，安静想了个办法。一天他走出门，笑着叫过来这群年轻人，说：“我有个特别的想法，我很喜欢你们有活力的样子。你们每天都来这里吵闹玩耍，我每天给每个人一百卢比。”
yǒu qián rén méi yǒu hé tā men chǎo jià，ān jìng xiǎng le gè bàn fǎ。yī tiān tā zǒu chū mén，xiào zhe jiào guò lái zhè qún nián qīng rén，shuō：“wǒ yǒu gè tè bié de xiǎo fǎ，wǒ hěn xǐ huān nǐ men yǒu huó lì de yàng zi。nǐ men měi tiān dōu lái zhè lǐ chǎo nào wán shuǎ，wǒ měi tiān gěi měi gè rén yī bǎi lú bǐ。”

年轻人十分意外，他们本来就喜欢在这里骑车打闹，现在还能拿到钱，从来没遇到这么划算的事。前三天，他们玩得更起劲，摩托车开得飞快，叫声也更大。每天傍晚，有钱人都会开心地分给每人一百卢比，所有人都特别高兴。

到了第四天，有钱人面露难色，跟大家说：“实在不好意思，我最近生意不好，拿不出一百卢比了。从今天开始，每人只能给五十卢比。”
dào le dì sì tiān，yǒu qián rén miàn lù nán sè，gēn dà jiā shuō：“shí zài bù hǎo yì si，wǒ zuì jìn shēng yi bù hǎo，ná bù chū yī bǎi lú bǐ le。cóng jīn tiān kāi shǐ，měi rén zhǐ néng gěi wǔ shí lú bǐ。”

年轻人心里不太舒服，但还是答应了，好歹还有钱能拿。之后三天，他们照旧来吵闹，每天傍晚有钱人分给大家五十卢比。
nián qīng rén xīn lǐ bù tài shū fu，dàn hái shi dā yìng le，hǎo dǎi hái yǒu qián néng ná。zhī hòu sān tiān，tā men zhào jiù lái chǎo nào，měi tiān bàng wǎn yǒu qián rén fēn gěi dà jiā wǔ shí lú bǐ。

又过了几天，有钱人再次走出来，说道：“我现在手头很紧，只能给这么点了。”说完，把十卢比放到每个人手上。
yòu guò le jǐ tiān，yǒu qián rén zài cì zǒu chū lái，shuō dào：“wǒ xiàn zài shǒu tóu hěn jǐn，zhǐ néng gěi zhè me diǎn le。”shuō wán，bǎ shí lú bǐ fàng dào měi gè rén shǒu shàng。

年轻人瞪大眼睛，完全不敢相信。“只有十卢比？”一个人大声喊道。“就这么点钱，还要我们费这么大力气吵闹？”另一个人埋怨起来。
nián qīng rén dèng dà yǎn jing，wán quán bù gǎn xiāng xìn。“zhǐ yǒu shí lú bǐ？”yī gè rén dà shēng hǎn dào。“jiù zhè me diǎn qián，hái yào wǒ men fèi zhè me dà lì qi chǎo nào？”lìng yī gè rén mái yuan qǐ lái。

其中一个人把钱直接还给富人，开口说：“我们才不会为了这点小钱浪费自己的时间。”说完，所有人骑上摩托车全部离开。从那天之后，他们再也没有来过，房子门前的街道变得安安静静。
qí zhōng yī gè rén bǎ qián zhí jiē huán gěi fù rén，kāi kǒu shuō：“wǒ men cái bú huì wèi le zhè diǎn xiǎo qián làng fèi zì jǐ de shí jiān。”shuō wán，suǒ yǒu rén qí shàng mó tuō chē quán bù lí kāi。cóng nà tiān zhī hòu，tā men zài yě méi yǒu lái guò，fáng zi mén qián de jiē dào biàn de ān ān jìng jìng。

这件事让有钱人看懂了做人的简单道理。心理老师把这种情况叫作“过度合理化效应”，意思是：一个人做一件事，如果不是自己真心喜欢，只是为了拿到外面的好处，那这份好处就会变成他做事的主要原因。一旦好处消失，他做事的劲头也会跟着消失。

平时生活里也常常出现这样的情况。很多朋友、情侣、合作伙伴能长久相处，大多只是因为一方可以得到钱财、舒服的生活、体面的身份或是其他好处。一旦这些好处没了，大家心里真实的想法和选择就会显露出来。
píng shí shēng huó lǐ yě cháng cháng chū xiàn zhè yàng de qíng kuàng。hěn duō péng you、qíng lǚ、hé zuò huǒ bàn néng cháng jiǔ xiāng chǔ，dà duō zhǐ shì yīn wèi yī fāng kě yǐ dé dào qián cái、shū fu de shēng huó、tǐ miàn de shēn fen huò shì qí tā hǎo chu。yī dàn zhè xiē hǎo chu méi le，dà jiā xīn lǐ zhēn shí de xiǎo fǎ hé xuǎn zé jiù huì xiǎn lù chū lái。

所以，不要只看日子顺利时别人对你热情微笑，就判定这段感情、这份交情是真心牢靠的。
suǒ yǐ，bú yào zhǐ kàn rì zi shùn lì shí bié rén duì nǐ rè qíng wēi xiào，jiù pàn dìng zhè duàn gǎn qíng、zhè fèn jiāo qíng shì zhēn xīn láo kào de。

Once, there was a rich man. He lived in a big house. But every afternoon, a group of young people came and made a lot of noise outside his house. They rode their motorcycles fast, shouted loudly, and disturbed the whole neighborhood. No one could rest.

The rich man didn't argue with them. He thought about it carefully. One day, he went outside with a smile and called the young people over. "I have a strange request," he said. "I like your energy. If you come here every day and make the same noise, I'll pay each of you 100 rupees."

The young people were surprised. They were already having fun, and now they would get money too. It seemed like the easiest money they had ever made.

For the first three days, they came back with even more excitement. They rode faster, shouted louder, and every evening, the rich man happily gave each of them 100 rupees. Everyone was happy.

This happens often in real life. Many friendships, relationships, and partnerships last only because someone is still getting money, comfort, status, or some other benefit. But when those benefits disappear, people often show what they really care about.

So, never judge the strength of a relationship by the smiles people give you when life is easy.

很久以前的一个秋日清晨，北风与太阳发生了一场争执。“我是世上最强大的，没人能打败我。”北风自夸道。太阳平静地笑了笑，说：“力量不只在强硬里。有时候，真正的力量藏在温和中。”

风更大了，在山谷间呼啸，掠过田野，冷风从四面八方吹向旅人。旅人低下头，把外套越裹越紧。“这外套绝不能脱，不然会冻死的。”他想。北风更着急了。“再用更大的力气。”于是吹出了比之前更强的风。风暴越来越猛，树枝摇晃，旅人走得更艰难了。

但他不但没脱外套，反而抱得更紧。每一阵风过后，他都把衣服裹得更牢。吹了很久之后，北风力尽了，只好认输。

鸟儿又开始唱歌，树木安静下来，道路显得安详而明亮。旅人抬起头，笑着说：“多美好的一天啊！”暖阳轻轻照在他脸上，他的身体放松了，觉得那厚外套不再需要了。没人强迫他，他静静地脱下外套，搭在肩上，愉快地继续赶路。

北风默默看着，问：“你没有跟他争斗吗？”太阳回答：“没有，我只是给了他一个放下外套的理由。”北风终于明白了。

有时候，人受到强迫时不会改变，只有在感到安全时才会改变。这个小故事讲了一个很深的道理。很多人以为施压、发怒、用强力可以改变别人；但人感到被攻击时，往往不会改变，反而会更加保护自己，就像旅人遇冷时把外套裹得更紧一样。

真正的力量，不总是在响亮或强硬的地方。有时候，温柔、耐心和理解，能做到强力做不到的事。就像太阳那样，真正的力量，是给人温暖、信任和自愿放下的理由。

Long ago, on an autumn morning, the North Wind and the Sun had an argument. "I am the strongest in the world. No one can beat me," the North Wind boasted. The Sun smiled gently and said, "True strength is not just about power. Sometimes, real strength is found in gentleness."

The North Wind laughed. "Gentleness? That is weakness," he replied. The Sun did not argue. They both looked down at the road and saw a traveler walking alone.

He wore a thick coat because the weather was cold. He was walking slowly to reach the next village by sunset. The North Wind had an idea. "Let's decide this way. Whoever can make the traveler take off his coat is the stronger one," he said. The Sun agreed. "You go first," the Sun said softly. The North Wind smiled with confidence.

"This will be easy," he thought. He took a deep breath and blew with all his might. The strong wind rushed down the road. Dust flew up. Leaves scattered everywhere. Trees bent their branches. The traveler stopped. "What terrible weather," he said, grabbing his coat and holding it tight against his body.

The wind grew stronger. It howled through the mountains and raced across the fields. The cold wind hit the traveler from all sides. The traveler bowed his head and wrapped his coat even tighter. "I must keep this coat on, or I will freeze," he thought. The North Wind got angry. "I must use more force," he said, and blew even harder than before. The storm became fierce. Branches shook. The traveler struggled to move forward.

But instead of taking off his coat, he held it tighter. Every strong wind made him protect himself more. After blowing for a long time, the North Wind grew tired. Finally, he had to admit defeat.

The Sun smiled kindly. "Now it's my turn," he said, and moved the clouds away. The Sun did not shout. He simply shone softly. Golden light spread across the sky. The cold air slowly became warm.

Birds began to sing again. The trees became still, and the road looked peaceful and beautiful. The traveler lifted his head. "What a lovely day," he said with a smile. When the warm sunlight touched his face gently, his body relaxed. He felt that his thick coat was no longer needed. No one forced him, but he quietly took off his coat, put it over his shoulder, and continued his journey happily.

The North Wind watched silently. "Didn't you fight him?" he asked. "No," said the Sun. "I just gave him a reason to let go." The North Wind finally understood.

Sometimes, people do not change when they are pushed hard. Sometimes, they change when they feel safe.

This little story teaches one of life's biggest lessons. Many people think that pressure, anger, and force can change others. But when people feel attacked, they usually protect themselves instead of changing. Just like the traveler held his coat tighter when he faced the cold wind.

True strength is not always found in loudness or force. Sometimes, kindness, patience, and understanding can do what force cannot. Like the Sun, real power lies in giving people warmth, trust, and a reason to let go.

ရှေးလွန်လေပြီးတော့ ဆောင်းဦးနံနက်ခင်းတစ်ခုမှာ မြောက်လေနဲ့ နေကြီး စကားများကြတယ်။ "ငါဟာ ကမ္ဘာပေါ်မှာ အစွမ်းအထက်ဆုံးပဲ။ ဘယ်သူမှ ငါ့ကို ချေမှုန်းနိုင်မှာ မဟုတ်ဘူး" လို့ မြောက်လေက ဝါးလိုက်တယ်။ နေကြီးကတော့ အေးအေးဆေးဆေး ပြုံးပြီး "အစွမ်းသတ္တိဆိုတာ အင်အားကြီးမှပဲ ရှိတာမဟုတ်ဘူး။ တစ်ခါတစ်လေ တကယ့်အစွမ်းသတ္တိဆိုတာ သိမ်မွေ့တဲ့နေရာမှာ ရှိတယ်" လို့ ပြန်ဖြေတယ်။

မြောက်လေက "သိမ်မွေ့တာပေါ့လား။ ဒါ အားနည်းချက်
ပဲ" လို့ ပြန်ပြောတယ်။ နေကြီးကလည်း ငြင်းမနေဘူး။
သူတို့နှစ်ယောက်လုံး အောက်ဘက်လမ်းကို ငုံ့ကြည့်လိုက်တော့ တစ်ယောက်တည်းသွားနေတဲ့ ခရီးသွားတစ်ယောက်ကို တွေ့လိုက်ရတယ်။
