Valley Day School We are a Private School located in the Valley, Virgin Gorda.

By working in small groups of no more than eight students per teacher, we are able to create and maintain an environment that recognizes, addresses, respects and promotes the individuality of our students. Just as their learning styles, capabilities and rate of progress vary, so do our teaching methods, pacing and use of materials. Our students learn to push themselves, support each other and work side by side to meet personal challenges and goals in an atmosphere of tolerance and open-minded acceptance.

A HEARTFELT THANK YOU!

As we reflect on the wonderful week that was Reading Is Fun Week, we would like to take a moment to express our sincere gratitude to the special members of our community who helped make the week even more meaningful for our students.

A very special thank you to Ms. Da'Silva of the Public Library, Virgin Gorda Branch for visiting Valley Day and engaging our students through delightful storytelling and interactive, hands-on literacy activities. Your time, energy, and creative approach brought stories to life in a way that captivated our students and made learning even more enjoyable. Thank you for helping us nurture a love for reading and reminding our students that books can be the beginning of wonderful adventures! 📖

We would also like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to our beloved Ms. Ellen for organizing, funding, and hosting an amazing Lucky Dip for our students! 🎁🎉 Your generosity and thoughtfulness brought so many smiles and excitement to the end of our week. Seeing our students leave with such happy faces was truly priceless.

We are incredibly grateful for your continued support, generosity, and commitment to the children of Valley Day. ❤️

Reading Is Fun Week was made even more memorable because of the collective contributions of our parents, community partners, staff, and friends of Valley Day. It truly takes a community to inspire a child, and we are blessed to have a community that continues to show up for our students.

📚BOOK SWAP FRIDAY! 📚

Today, our students brought books from home that they had finished reading and were ready to pass along to a new reader. They then had the exciting opportunity to choose a different book from those shared by their classmates, giving well-loved stories a chance to begin a new adventure! ❤️📖

The excitement of browsing, choosing, exchanging, and wondering “What story will I discover next?” was wonderful to see!

Book Swap Friday reminded us that a book doesn't have to stay on one shelf to make a difference. When we share a book, we share a story, an adventure, a new idea, and the opportunity for someone else to fall in love with reading.

A huge thank you to our students and families for helping make this activity such a success! Your generosity helped fill little hands with new stories and, hopefully, inspired many more pages to be turned. 📚

📚 CHARACTER DRESS-UP THURSDAY! 📚

Day 4 of Reading Is Fun Week was a celebration of imagination, creativity, and the characters who make our favourite stories unforgettable! 📖

We were thrilled to see so many amazing characters brought to life today! Our students proudly presented their characters and costumes at assembly, and they were super excited to show off who they had become for the day.

There is something magical about stepping out of the pages of a book and becoming part of the story. When children dress up as their favourite characters, they don't just read the story, they get to imagine themselves in it! They explore personalities, emotions, adventures, and possibilities, allowing their creativity to shine in a whole new way.

From beloved heroes and heroines to funny, adventurous, and imaginative characters, our students reminded us that every great story has the power to come alive!

A huge shout-out to our students and families for putting so much thought and creativity into today's costumes. You certainly made Character Dress-Up Thursday one to remember! ❤️

Day 3 of Reading Is Fun Week was truly special!

We are incredibly thankful to all the parents who stopped by to share a story with our students, and the one who joined us via video call! 📱📖❤️ Your presence, whether in person or virtually, brought an added excitement and joy to the day.

From your choice of stories to the different ways you brought them to life, your voices, expressions, creativity, and unique styles of engaging our students left a lasting impression! ✨

Thank you for reminding our children that reading is not just something we do, it is something we can share, enjoy, and treasure together.

Day 2 of Reading Is Fun Week 2026 was filled with excitement, thinking, and lots of reading fun!

For Trivia Tuesday, our students put their listening, reading, comprehension, and memory skills to the test!

🎉 Each grade level was challenged with questions based on the stories they have been reading and listening to in class.

It was wonderful to see our students eagerly thinking, recalling details, sharing their answers, and showing just how much they are learning through stories!

A big CONGRATULATIONS to our Reading Superstars! 🏆👏 Your hard work, confidence, and love for stories truly shone through!

Day 1 of Reading is Fun Week 2026:

Monday was truly special! 📚✨ We are confident that our students were inspired as we kicked off Reading Is Fun Week with "My Favourite Book Monday!"

We began the day with a whole-school storytime, followed by engaging in-class sessions. Our Preschool and Kindergarten students enjoyed having a variety of stories, that they brought from home, shared with them, while the rest of our students proudly shared theirs with their classmates.

The excitement of seeing children walk into school carrying stories that they love, eager to share them with their friends, was wonderful to see! Their enthusiasm, curiosity, and genuine interest reminded us just how powerful a good book can be. ❤️📖

What a beautiful way to begin a week dedicated to celebrating the joy of reading!

A Little Late, But a Message Worth Sharing! 💜

For Alzheimer’s Awareness, our students were reminded of the importance of showing acceptance, patience, kindness, and respect to everyone, especially those whose lives may be affected by Alzheimer’s.

This message blended beautifully with our focus on Respect: Accepting Differences and our school theme, “Shine Your Way.” ✨

We believe that education is about more than academics. We are also nurturing kind hearts, compassionate minds, and young people who understand that everyone deserves to be valued, respected, and accepted.

Because when we teach children to recognize and respect differences, we help them learn that everyone has a light worth shining. 🌟
