🀄 Magnolia Mahj is growing! Meet our newest instructor, Cindy Shotwell!

We’re excited to officially welcome Cindy Shotwell as a fully affiliated Mahjong Instructor with Magnolia Mahj! With Cindy joining the team, we’ll be able to offer more classes, more open play, and more opportunities to MAHJ!

A Feliciana native, Cindy is a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. After retiring from the legal field, she founded Must Luv Dogs Rescue, which has helped save nearly 1,000 abandoned and neglected dogs.

Cindy was introduced to American Mahjong by her friend and fellow rescue advocate, Liz Ezelle — and, like so many of us, she quickly fell under the spell of the tiles. She loves studying strategy just as much as she loves the friendships that come with the game.

After joining the GBR Bambird Scramble in 2025, Cindy caught the competitive bug, too. In August, she took home 1st place at the 2026 Mississippi Gulf Coast Mahjong Classic — so tournament play has officially been added to her Mahjong addiction!

Cindy already loves sharing the game with others and has taught players in both Louisiana and Michigan, where she frequently visits family.

We’re so excited to have Cindy officially teaching alongside Magnolia Mahj and can’t wait for you to learn and play with her!

And the timing couldn’t be better…

👀 October Mahj 101, Mahj 102 & Open Play dates are coming VERY soon!

More teachers. More availability. More Mahjong.

Stay tuned! 🀄

Time to preorder your 2027 cards. Please remember, they come out in the spring but by pre-ordering them, you'll get yours the fastest! Order from my friend, Amanda Robertson Bolton at Mahj Central !

2027 NMJL Card Pre-Orders are OPEN! 🀄️💗

Mahj Central is once again collecting 2027 National Mah Jongg League card pre-orders—and your order can help make a difference right here in our community!

Here’s how it works: I collect everyone’s individual card pre-orders and submit them together as one large order to the NMJL on February 1, 2027. Once processed, the NMJL mails your card directly to you—no need to pick it up from me!

But here’s the best part: 💕 For every card ordered through Mahj Central, the NMJL donates $7 per card to the charity I select.

This year, those funds will benefit One Hope Alliance, the nonprofit organization that helps fund Teen Reach Adventure Camps (TRAC)—camps created to provide meaningful experiences, connection, and support for local youth in the foster care system.

Ready to order? Scan the QR code on the graphic or visit:
https://form.jotform.com/mahjcentral2/2027NMJLcard

⚠️ IMPORTANT: Your pre-order is not complete until payment is submitted. Please send payment at the time you place your order via Venmo: -Bolton-12

Order your 2027 card, support local youth, and help us turn something we already love into something that gives back. 💗

Learn. Gather. Give.

Mahj 102 with the CrossFit Zachary group! Their minds are as strong as their bodies 💪! Next stop, beginner open play!

09/29/2026

Four ladies leveled up their Mahj game with me this afternoon! 🀄️

In Mahj 102, we reviewed the card and rules, took a deeper dive into some specific hands, and then got to PLAY.

We played three rounds where I helped guide their Charleston choices, hand selection, discards, and started working in a little strategy along the way.

101 teaches you how to play. 102 helps you figure out what the heck to do with everything you learned. 😂

Whether you just finished 101, need a confidence boost before Open Play, want to sharpen your strategy, or are ready for tournament prep—we can meet you wherever you are and help level up your game!

What a night at FUMC BR!

Tonight we welcomed 23 brand-new players into Mahj 101 and had 16 more join us for Open Play!

I’ve been a member of this church for 14 years, and somehow Mahjong still managed to introduce me to so many new faces tonight. If you know me you also know my favorite part of the game — the connections it creates.

So much fun seeing our church family gather around the tables, learn something new, laugh a lot, and make a few new friends along the way.

Thanks for Mahj-ing with Magnolia Mahj tonight! Cindy Nettles Shotwell and I had a blast! Looking forward to 102!

Cracks, Squats & Dots was definitely not your average Mahjong night.

36 ladies took over CrossFit Zachary, and 10 of them were wild enough to squeeze in a 30-minute workout before playing. The rest of us exercised our brains. 😂

A little unconventional? Absolutely. A fantastic night? Also absolutely.

Huge thanks to Hector Fabian Herrera at CrossFit Zachary for letting Magnolia Mahj trade barbells for tiles for the night! 🀄️💪
