WHEN THE LEARNING “CUP” OVERFLOWS
Working memory is the small amount of information we can hold and use at one time.
Think of it like a cup. When a student must remember too many new directions, rules, or steps at once, the cup can overflow—leaving little room for learning.
A student who feels overwhelmed may not be lazy or unmotivated. Their working memory may simply be overloaded. Breaking instruction into smaller, manageable steps helps students learn more successfully.
