Bees like going where bees have been in the past. In this case, a 3rd floor balcony. Although the owners had repaired the holes from the previous removal, they hadn't sealed all of the gaps, and new bees moved back in. The colony was doing so well, they filled up their initial cavity and were expanding into another one. Lots of honey, bees, and THE QUEEN! With all of the confusion during a removal, it's not as common to see her as you might think after seeing other videos online. But there she was - with a blue dot to boot!

Yesterday's removal was a big one. I was very glad to have the help of Evan and Lindsay. This colony had been in place for a few years and was rather large. It's so much easier when you have help.

Yes, we are in a drought. But some of the hives are still packing away the honey. It probably doesn't hurt that their front yard is a carpet of poppies, and the canopy overhead is tulip poplars.

If you have your yard fogged for mosquitoes, you are paying a pesticide company to make your mosquito problem worse. Don't do it.

Dark Honey is back! Dark honey is taken from colonies that we have removed from a building or a tree. Frequently, these colonies have been in place for several seasons or even years. Because we need to crush the honeycomb to release the honey, more pollen gets added to the honey. This honey tends to have 20x the pollen content of our spring honey and has a deep, rich taste.
