CASE: RETAIL THEFT - WRIGHTSVILLE MINI MART - SOLVED 06/12/2026

Is your agency / PIO using social media as an investigative tool?

When posting images and information seeking the public's assistance, have you considered what happens once a case is solved?

As the debate over a person's "Right To Be Forgotten" continues, agencies face growing challenges controlling information shared online.

Social media platforms are commercial users of public safety information, monetizing content through advertising and engagement while retaining broad rights to archive, index, distribute and share that information.

CRIMEWATCH is different. As a non-commercial public safety platform built exclusively for law enforcement, agencies maintain control of their content.

With ControlShare™ Technology, information can be updated, redacted, or removed from the web, search results, and social media distributions with a click.

We shared a great example comes from the Lower Windsor Twp Police (PA).

After seeking help identifying three retail theft suspects, tips submitted through CRIMEWATCH led to all three being identified as juveniles. LWTPD then updated the investigation and removed the image(s), helping protect those juveniles from a permanent digital footprint.

Transparency matters. So does responsible information management.

Delaware clears over 64,000 low-level offenders from criminal background checks 06/03/2026

"The goal of our criminal justice system is not to punish people; it is to change their behavior and give them the tools to succeed when they reenter society," - Governor Matt Meyer

Across the country, states are debating how to balance the public's right to know with an individual's right to be forgotten.

Recent legislation, such as Delaware's Clean Slate Act, reflects a growing recognition that people who have paid their debt to society deserve an opportunity to move forward.

While criminal records may be sealed or expunged, information shared online often remains indefinitely. Arrest photos, incident reports, and social media posts can continue to impact a person's life long after a case has been resolved.

Since 2012, CRIMEWATCH has provided law enforcement with a solution to this challenge. Through our proprietary ControlShare™ Technology, agencies can maximize the reach of public safety information across the web and social media while maintaining control of that content and also protecting that content from nefarious websites. When appropriate, agencies can update, edit, redact, or remove content from search and social media (including mugshots) with a simple click.

We believe in and , but accountability should not necessarily become a lifetime sentence. CRIMEWATCH helps agencies balance the public's right to know with an individual's opportunity for a second chance.
