As we celebrate a new school year, we are excited to welcome several new faculty and see some familiar faces return.

Meet our new faculty supporting every learner at Perelman:

📚 Jamie Adler, 5th Grade General Studies
For more than 35 years, Jamie has helped students improve their literacy — and teachers improve their literacy instruction! —as an elementary classroom teacher, reading specialist, writing curriculum leader, and professional development facilitator.

📖 Danielle Matlin, 2nd Grade Learning Specialist
Danielle is a certified special education teacher who creates nurturing environments focused on differentiated instruction, individualized learning plans, executive functioning, and social-emotional support.

📚Laina Snellenberg, 4th Grade General Studies
Laina recently earned her degree in elementary teacher education. Previously, she was a substitute teacher at Perelman Jewish Day School and spent several summers at Ramah Day Camp as an Assistant Division Leader. She is committed to fostering meaningful relationships with students.

📖 Yechiel Schur, 4th/5th Grade Jewish Studies
Yechiel brings more than 25 years experience teaching Jewish studies in a variety of settings, from elementary and high schools to universities. He has a deep knowledge of Jewish history and Hebrew language, and a passion for meaningful Jewish learning.

📚 Emily Watson, ELL Teacher
Emily returns to Perelman as our English Language Learners (ELL) teacher. Emily helps multilingual students build confidence and strengthen their skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking English while ensuring they can fully succeed across the curriculum.

📖 Nakisha Smith, Tzaharon & Recess
Nakisha returns to continue her work supervising Tzaharon (After Care), and has also expanded her role to oversee recess. With extensive experience in child care and supervision, Nakisha creates a safe, supportive, and caring environment for every child.

✨ Our teachers are back! ✨

Last week, we were excited to welcome our new faculty and staff as we kicked off preparations for the school year. Our newest team members spent time getting to know one another and building connections through team-building activities, helping lay the foundation for a strong and collaborative year ahead.

Yesterday, our full faculty came together for a day of meetings, collaboration, and professional development, including a session focused on project-based learning (PBL).

We’re thrilled to be partnering with PBL expert Aaron Eisberg, Director at the Center for Excellence at New Technology High School and a national faculty member at PBLWorks, who will be working with our faculty throughout the year to deepen and strengthen their PBL practice.

From building relationships and sharing ideas to preparing for the year ahead, our teachers are already laying the groundwork for a year of meaningful learning and discovery. We can’t wait to welcome our students back! 💙📚

Our youngest new Perelman students had a wonderful opportunity to get a head start on the school year at our new student playdates! 🎉

Designed to be relaxed, playful, and welcoming, these gatherings gave children a chance to meet future classmates, get to know their teachers, and connect with members of our Academic Leadership Team before the first day of school.

And while the kids played, parents had the chance to meet one another, exchange stories, and begin forming the connections that make the Perelman community so special.

We’re excited to see these new friendships and connections grow throughout the school year—and can’t wait to welcome our newest students to Perelman! ✨

🎙️ What can mistakes teach us? In their episode “Trial and Error,” Perelman's Podcast Club explores how learning often happens through experimentation, perseverance, and trying again.

Through interviews and reflections, our podcasters dug into the challenges of getting things wrong and why setbacks can be an important part of growth.

Created by students and for students, the episode captures the thoughtful conversations taking place in Perelman's Podcast Club while giving young voices a platform to be heard.

🌟 Our Gan (Kindergarten) students had a wonderful time celebrating the end of an incredible year!

With songs, smiles, and plenty of pride, they shared all they’ve learned and accomplished in both Hebrew and English with family and friends. From sweet reflections to joyful performances, the celebration was a beautiful way to mark this special milestone and wrap up an amazing year of growth and learning.

A heartfelt thank-you to our wonderful Perelman teachers for creating such meaningful moments and helping our youngest learners shine! 💙

🚀 3… 2… 1… LIFTOFF!

Our fifth graders put their learning into action by designing, building, and launching their own Estes model rockets! 🚀

The project was the culmination of their study of the solar system, building on visits to Perelman’s planetarium and NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Challenger Learning Center. Along the way, students applied principles of space science, engineering, and critical thinking to design and launch their rockets—seeing firsthand how scientific inquiry and innovation come together.

Hands-on learning like this sparks curiosity, deepens understanding, and inspires students to keep exploring! 🌎✨

What a wonderful morning at Summer Jam! ☀️💙

We had such a great time joining jkidphilly, other community partners, and so many local families for a joyful celebration of Tu B'Av!

From live music, crafts, bubbles, and water play to meaningful connections with new and familiar faces, it was a fun-filled morning celebrating Jewish community together.

As a proud co-sponsor of this special event, we loved welcoming families to the Perelman table and sharing what makes our school community so special.

In Lauren Almond’s fourth grade classroom, students get a hands-on introduction to the world of finances through their very own “Classroom Economy.” 💵

Throughout the year, students earn salaries, manage their own money, keep track of transactions in bank registers, pay taxes and rent on their desks, and even create their own wallets.

Built specifically for the classroom, this immersive project helps students experience real-world financial responsibility in an age-appropriate way, building decision-making and money-management skills they’ll carry with them for the rest of their lives.
