Did you know you can study abroad over the summer on programs around the world that generally range from 4-8 weeks? Deadlines are early to mid March, so schedule a meeting with a study abroad advisor today! {Link In Bio}
In the meantime, enjoy these amazing pictures, memories and advice from Simona S who spent Summer 2025 in London!
Why did you choose to study abroad over the summer?
I was very fortunate to participate in the FYSAE program in London and I absolutely fell in love with London and everything about it. As soon as I got home, I remember jumping on a call with Scott Terry to figure out how to get myself back to London ASAP while also staying on track for graduation. It turned out that the summer internship program fit me perfectly.
In just about seven weeks, I was able to gain so much experience and knowledge. I earned six credits which knocked out the AUCs I needed. But, most importantly I was able to add an internship to my resume. In today’s job market, having any internship experience is gold, even if it's not something directly related to your major. It’s still an experience. It’s still something that builds you for your future career. And it’s experience in a DIFFERENT country (this is huge).
What was your favorite part of the experience?
My favorite part of the London Summer Internship program was genuinely just growing professionally and personally. Living in a different country for a period of time really forces you to grow and become the person you want to be in life, at least that’s what it did for me. It gave me this drive that I keep with me today. It’s pushed me to keep raising the bar in my professional life.
And personally? I was on my own in a country that I had been in before, with friends, but this time it was completely different. This time it was literally all about me. Having that independence was honestly one of the most rewarding parts of the experience and made the whole experience even more meaningful to me. The world is literally at your hands, go after it (Arcadia makes this VERY possible).
What advice do you have for other students considering studying abroad over the summer?
Advice that I have for other students considering studying abroad over the summer is to say YES to everything. Don’t hold yourself back from an experience that will literally change your life. Even if something feels uncomfortable or it is something out of the ordinary for you at first, that’s where all of the best memories and growth comes from. With the summer program you’ll only be there for a short amount of time, so make sure you take advantage of every opportunity, don’t be scared to talk to locals (I promise they talk back), and explore as much as you can. You’ll come back to the U.S. with so much more than credits and a line on your resume, you will truly come back with confidence, memories, and experiences you’ll carry with you forever.

💫 Student Spotlight: Niyah B (Class of 2028) 💫
We’re continuing to reflect on moments from this semester like Career Fest that helped students turn conversations into real opportunities. Niyah (who also works as a Career Peer Mentor at the Office of Career Education) highlights how preparation, networking, and support can pay off - sometimes faster than expected.
How many employers did you connect with at the event?
“Although I got to connect briefly with almost all of the employers due to me working at the event itself, I connected with at least 4 of the employers, all of them being connected to or working with the branches of the Psychology department (I am a psychology major) whether that be them working as school counselors, mental hospitals, or even nursing homes for elderly and people in need.”
What kind of follow-ups did you have after the event?
“I had various follow ups with the lovely employers I met. I submitted my resume through email to all of the employers that I felt most interested with and I connected with one and now I have an interview in November! I am super excited to see the results of my networking at the Career Fest.”
November Update:
“The interview went really well and I was offered an internship position for PITT on the spot!”
Any career development tips you want to share with our students?
“I feel like the Career Fest and also the Office of Career Education itself has really helped me gain some introspect on building my resume and being able to network with employers. I am super appreciative of not only career events occurring every semester but for the staff at the OCE department. They have helped me become the networker/employee that I am now and they have helped me build the confidence of speaking to an employer and building some strong experience on my resume regarding my major. I cannot give thanks enough to Dr. Cynthia Nicholas who has been dedicating time to me and has been helping me practice building my career experience professionally. Without her I don’t think I would have been able to even get this experience that I have now. I also want to give thanks to Sonia Blount for not only hosting this event but also trusting me to work this event and help out with planning and any tasks she needed me to do.”
