Members of AFSCME Local 458 at Trumbull County Job and Family Services hosted a Spirit Week with daily themes such as Decades Day, Pajama Day and finished out the week with an AFSCME Green Day! The event brought a lot of smiles and laughter to the office, showing how something as simple as a spirit week can strengthen our solidarity with one another. The administration also worked with Local 458 to raffle off prime parking spot access. While this was the first year AFSCME Local 458 has organized a Spirit Week event, they hope to make the festivities an annual tradition for the local.

School buses travel Ohio roads every day carrying our most precious cargo and workers like AFSCME Local 1846 member Dakota Griggs make sure that these buses are safe and running well for the many miles they travel each day. Dakota spends his days at Athens City Schools managing several maintenance tasks, but perhaps most important is ensuring that the Athens City Schools bus fleet is properly maintained and in good working condition to transport the students of Athens. Thanks to the hard work of Dakota and other workers like him across the state of Ohio, parents can rest easy knowing that their children are taken good care of not only at school, but on the journey to and from school as well.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness month, a recognition that first began over 80 years ago in 1945. While we have made huge strides in employment protections and opportunities for disabled workers, there is always more work to be done. This month AFSCME Ohio Council 8 recognizes our disabled union family and commits to continuing the fight for equity and fairness on the job for all employees.

Keeping our union's finances in tip-top shape is one of the most important ongoing tasks of our local leaders. To support this important goal, we hosted a Financial Standards Code training in Cincinnati this past weekend. We also were honored to have AFSCME Secretary-Treasurer Nicole Pollard join us and greet training attendees!
