300 Southbridge Street in Worcester, MA hosts future site of “Bridge Academy” aka “The Bridge.” Years of dedicated property maintenance, detailed planning, and hard labor have envisioned 300 Southbridge Street as a dynamic, accessible, community-based academy for providing trade and holistic art development for under-served youth.
Unfortunately, with recent changes and new money coming into Worcester, there are increasing concerns around gentrification and displacement of communities that live, work and play in the city. Despite years of hard work, the property that would host the visionary Bridge Academy has just been placed on the market and will likely be turned into luxury condos unless the community comes together and demands support for this project. Bridge would meet direct needs, not the greedy desires of rich developers who intend to line their pockets through the exploitation of our communities.
This acute threat to Bridge Academy project has compelled us to share this vision far and wide. In the short-term, the #SaveTheBridge project will be a dynamic and challenging project that will bring communities together in radical new ways. In the long-run we envision Bridge Academy itself as an institution with the potential to change the way our city educates its young people; With dignity, respect, and equips them with accessible, practical skills that allow them to envision and grasp a prosperous future here in Worcester.
