The DeCoste Memorial Foundation invites our supporters, partners, and community to join us as we remember Senior Chief Scott DeCoste on the 11th anniversary of his passing.

Scott's legacy continues through the Foundation established in his memory. What began with a single scholarship has grown into programs that provide scholarships, grants, and assistance to military, veteran, Gold Star, and service-connected families.

Today, we remember the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice aboard Extortion 17 on August 6, 2011.

While we honor each of their lives and sacrifices, we also recognize the incredible example set by the family of Special Operations Chief (SEAL) Aaron Vaughn.

After losing Aaron aboard Extortion 17, the Vaughn family made the remarkable decision to turn unimaginable grief into hope for others. They founded Operation 300, an organization dedicated to serving the children of our nation's fallen military heroes. Through camps, mentorship, and unforgettable experiences, they remind these children that they are never alone and that their parent's sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Next week, our daughter, Alexis, will be attending an Operation 300 Camp in Florida. As a child of a service-connected Navy Senior Chief, she has the opportunity to experience firsthand the love, encouragement, and community the Vaughn family has built from Aaron's legacy.

At the DeCoste Memorial Foundation, we are grateful for families like the Vaughns, who continue to lift others even after enduring profound loss. Their commitment to serving military families is an inspiration and a reminder that a legacy of service doesn't end—it lives on through those who choose to carry it forward.

May they never be forgotten. 🇺🇸

Today's Pay It Forward brought Alexis and I to the Woonsocket Police Department. We dropped off more than 100 goodie bags for every officer, dispatcher, and civilian employee, along with pizza for the day shift to enjoy.

This is the city where Scott and I grew up. My brother retired from that department as a Lieutenant (a.k.a. the "serial killer solver"... if you know, you know 😉), and before the Navy transferred us to Virginia in 2004, Scott was 3rd on the hiring list to join the department. In addition, one of scholarship recipients has a father who is a Captain on the department! There are many Kevin Bacon six degrees of separation going on! 💙

Funny how life works. Scott's Navy career took us away, but it's pretty incredible to be back home years later, honoring his legacy with the department he was so close to becoming a part of.
