Some lessons are best learned with your hands.

At Living Science, we talk a lot about hands-on science. But hands-on learning doesn't stop when science class ends.

In Trades class, students are gaining practical experience in a variety of trades while learning how to use tools and safety equipment, work as a team, solve problems, and build confidence along the way.

Recently, students were getting hands-on with welding. In this lesson, they worked with angle iron, including learning how to grind and prepare the metal.

Casey Hyatt and Marc Liebermann are heading up the class, with 4-6 other Living Science dads bringing their own skills and experience to the classroom throughout the year.

Lessons begin in the classroom, then migrate to the worksite.

Because at Living Science, we want to go beyond academic excellence. We want our students to leave us with knowledge, but also with practical skills, confidence, problem-solving ability, and the willingness to learn how to do something new.

Sometimes the best teacher is someone who can say, "Let me show you how."

And sometimes the best lesson is the one you get to build with your own two hands.

What happens before a field trip ever begins?

At Living Science, our teachers don't just plan experiences for our students. Sometimes, they go experience them together first!

Our elementary teachers spent the day at Amicalola Falls, enjoying a guided hike, learning about the plants and natural environment they will encounter, and working together to plan a meaningful day for our 2nd-5th graders.

But one of the best parts? They genuinely enjoy being together.

Our elementary team has been building something special. They laugh together, learn together, plan together, and encourage one another as they prepare to serve their students.

That kind of community doesn't happen by accident. And we believe our students benefit from being part of a school where the adults leading them are connected, invested, and having fun together.

We can't wait for our elementary students to experience Amicalola Falls with these amazing teachers!

Some things are worth keeping.

In a world where kids can type faster than they can write, our students are still learning something that doesn't require a screen: cursive.

Cursive isn't taught consistently in every school across the country, although more states are bringing it back. Research continues to show that handwriting engages the brain in ways that typing does not, while also developing fine-motor skills and supporting learning and memory.

But there's another reason we value it at Living Science: We want our students to be capable and well-rounded, equipped with both modern skills and timeless ones. We want them to be able to type an email, write a handwritten letter, read an old document, sign their name, and communicate without a screen in front of them.

Sometimes, progress means moving forward.
And sometimes, it means remembering what is still worth carrying with us.

Cursive is one of those things.

Lessons Are Best Learned With Your Hands.

Labor Day gives us a chance to celebrate the value of work. At Living Science, we believe children should have opportunities to experience the value of work, too.

Some lessons simply can't be learned from a textbook.
You learn perseverance by sticking with a difficult task.
You learn responsibility by caring for something that depends on you.
You learn problem-solving by figuring out how to fix or build something.
And you learn the joy of serving when your work benefits someone else.

That's why hands-on experiences are woven throughout the Living Science experience, from tending a garden and cooking a meal to building, creating, serving, and working together.

We want our students to grow into young people who are capable, confident, hardworking, and willing to serve.

Because education isn't just about knowing more...It's about becoming more prepared for real life.

Planting More Than a Garden

We're planting more than a garden. We're planting skills, confidence, character, and a love of learning.

This year, Living Science is excited to introduce Living Lessons, a new parent-led initiative for students in 2nd through 5th grade designed to help children develop practical skills, confidence, responsibility, and character through hands-on experiences.

And what better place to begin than in the garden?

As the new school year gets underway, students are getting their hands dirty as they help reopen and prepare the Living Science garden. They'll learn how things grow, care for what they plant, and experience the satisfaction of seeing their work produce something real.

But the garden is just the beginning.

Throughout the year, students will have opportunities to explore skills like woodworking, basic repairs, cooking, fire building, gardening, canning, conversational Spanish, and even creating a product to sell at a spring market.

These experiences are about more than learning how to do something. They're about learning to try, solve problems, persevere, work together, and contribute.

At Living Science, we want our students to grow not only in what they know, but in who they are becoming.

And we're excited to see what grows this year.

From the classroom to the cockpit! ✈️

We love celebrating the many different paths our Living Science alumni take after graduation, and Jackson Worsham is reaching new heights.

At just 21 years old, Jackson is pursuing a degree in Aviation through Liberty University Online while training with Superior Flight School at Cobb County International Airport in Kennesaw.

Jackson has already achieved some incredible milestones, earning his Private Pilot Certificate, Instrument Rating, and most recently, his Commercial Certificate.

His next step is flight instruction, and after that, he is excited to see where God leads him in the world of commercial aviation.

We love seeing our alumni pursue their passions, work hard toward their goals, and trust God with the journey ahead.

Congratulations, Jackson! We're so proud of you and can't wait to see where God takes you next.

What helps a child stand firm in a world that is constantly pulling them in different directions?

At our Back-to-School Parent Meeting, we were reminded of a simple but powerful truth: Children are flexible. They are growing, learning, and being shaped by the world around them. Like these little “Magnet Men,” they can bend and move with every breeze.

But something changes when they stick together.

One alone can easily be pulled away. But together, they are stronger.
That is the kind of community we want to build at Living Science.

We want our students to be anchored in God's Word and connected to one another. We want them to know they are not meant to walk through life alone. We want them surrounded by people who will encourage them, challenge them, pray for them, and point them back to Christ.

Because at Living Science, we are a ministry first and a school second.

Our hope is that as our children grow, they won't simply bend with every changing wind around them. Instead, they will learn to stand firm, rooted in Christ and strengthened by community.

What happens when faith, science, and the tough questions come together?

We're excited to introduce a brand-new high school course this fall: Bioethics.

Taught by Rachel Guy, a 2017 Living Science graduate with a master's degree in Bioethics, this one-semester course will help students explore modern ethical questions through a Biblical worldview.

Students will examine the value of human life, the Imago Dei, medical ethics, reproductive technologies, identity, and other complex issues while learning to think critically, engage thoughtfully, and respond with compassion and discernment.

This is a unique opportunity to learn from an alum who has come back to share her expertise with the next generation:
