Spots still available for Native American Studies 175: American Indian Music, Dance, & Theater
This course studies American Indian cultural forms in traditional expressive settings
(ceremonies, music, dance, and storytelling) and the emergent field of Native American
theater in non-traditional contexts. The class will take a performance-based approach
through a study of available literature, video, audio, live demonstrations, and other
relevant sources. The course will also cover basic Native performance vocabularies,
phrases, and movements through dance, music, choreography, oral traditions, and other
appropriate norms of cultural expression. A culminating workshop performance will enhance the active classroom experience.
