FUN WITH DICK AND MISS JANE ( #5)
(Humor written by a 65-year-old student)

Dick says, “Oh Miss Jane! Aren’t you the sneaky one? Now you’re going to sneak flats in on me without marking them by the notes in the music.”

Miss Jane says, “I’m not a sneak. That just happens to be the way music is written. You’re just going to have to get used to it.”

Dick says, “I can be sneaky too. I can write the flats next to the notes in pencil and then erase them after I learn the song. Then you won’t see them at my next lesson.”

Miss Jane says, “Richard, if you want to cheat, that’s up to you. But then it will take you even longer to learn to play. By the way, did you learn the difference between your right and left hand this week?”

Dick says, “Help me a little bit. Is my right hand the one with the thumb on the right side?”

Miss Jane says, “It depends on whether you are looking at your hand with the palm up or down. Either hand could have the thumb on the right or left side.”

Dick says, “These lessons are becoming an obstacle course to me. I’ll be lucky to learn a song a year instead of a song a lesson.”

Miss Jane says, “Great! Keep up that good positive attitude.”

“Learning humor is like learning to play the piano.
Nearly anyone can learn to make music on the keyboard.
Few will be invited to play Carnegie Hall. And likewise,
your average person has the ability to sharpen his or
her sense of humor through applied study and practice.
That’s not to say they’ll ever take the stage as a professional
performer of humor.” (John Kinde – Humor Specialist)

The Mister Bass Clef teaches PIANO Theory books will SIMPLIFY TEACHING theory for you and SIMPLIFY LEARNING theory for your students.

How?

• Students can easily read, understand new concepts and know exactly what the lesson is teaching – teachers don’t need to use lesson time explaining.

• Review pages help students remember what was previously learned – just enough to remind them – saving the teacher time reviewing.

• Minimal writing for students to learn what is needed and for teachers to see that they understand – many theory books have students writing excessively and more time is spent doing (and correcting) a theory assignment than is necessary.

• A summary at the end of each level shows what has been learned. A great reference spot! No need for students to hang on to old theory books to search for something previously learned. And no need for teachers to re-explain when the answers to most student questions are in the summary.

Haven’t tried them yet? Check them out with the May 2017 Special Offer and start next fall with a new theory series for your students.

April 2017 Special Offer is now available. FREE SHIPPING on orders over $50.00. You will receive your refund of 20% as soon as your order ships.

The EASY way to teach Improvising! The instructions are so clear, you won't need to use lesson time explaining.

All students working with a teacher should start with Level 1 (Student Edition) even if they are in higher levels in their method books.

If you haven't taught improvising or do not know much about it, it doesn't matter. You can work through the levels staying one step ahead of your students. Use either the Self-Study Editions or the Teacher's Answer Key which include the grand staff notations (answers).

If you are a student working on Improvising without a teacher, use the Self-Study Editions.

Go to www.misterbassclef.com, under the heading IMPROVISING, to download sample pages from all the Improvising books.

FUN WITH DICK AND MISS JANE ( #4)
(Humor written by a 65-year-old student)

Miss Jane says, “Richard! I’m starting out this lesson with triplets.”

Dick says, “Really! Congratulations! But will you still have time to teach too?”

Miss Jane says, “I’m talking about timing, stupid.”

Dick says, “I didn’t criticize your timing. Now is as good a time as ever.”

Miss Jane says, “I really believe you’re hopeless, but let’s try again.
Count 1 and a 2 and a 3 and a 4 and a 1 and a 2 and a 3 and a 4 and a.”

Dick says, “Wow! And you call me stupid. You’ll never get to 10 at that rate.”

Miss Jane says, “I will write it like this (1 + a 2 + a 3 + a 4 + a) under the notes and then you count it. Go ahead start counting.”

Dick says, “1 plus a 2 plus a 3 plus a 4 plus a 1 plus a 3 plus a 4 plus a 5 plus a.”

Miss Jane says, “On a scale of zero to ten, you are definitely a zero.”

Dick says, “Thanks Teach. I still think you’re a ten.”

FUN WITH DICK AND MISS JANE ( #3)
(Humor written by a 65-year-old student)

Dick says, "Miss Jane, you're looking younger every day!"

Miss Jane says, "Richard! Let's focus on your piano lesson. Remember what I told you?"

Dick says, "Yes, I sure do. What did you tell me?"

Miss Jane says, "Don't worry so much about the fi*****ng. Just follow the numbers and your fingers will eventually become trained."

Dick says, "Eventually! Why not now? I'll be getting old eventually."

Miss Jane says, "Won't we all?"

Dick says, "Yes, but that's the one place I'm way ahead of you."

Miss Jane says, "You know something?"

Dick says, "I doubt it."

Miss Jane says, "If you spent one tenth as much time practicing as you do growing old, you might improve your piano playing. Notice, I said, might."

Dick says, "Miss Jane, remember the slogan 'let your fingers do the walking'? Why do you insist on having me try to make my fingers do the running?"

Miss Jane says, "Yours is not to reason why, yours is but to do or die."

Dick says, "This is killing me."

Studio Fun ( #1)
(Ideas for your studio)

Can you solve these? Don't post your answers - I will post the answers on Friday.
-----
Have parents of your students said, "He/She is not practicing but loves coming to the lessons"? Even if students are not practicing much or hinting that they want to quit, keeping the lessons enjoyable may be just the bridge they need until their enthusiasm for the piano returns.

Find a wall in your studio to hang interesting stuff. Students will love showing or telling their parents, siblings, friends or teachers at school all about the latest "fun" thing you have up on your wall and how much they like going to their piano lessons.
-----
The FEBRUARY 2017 SPECIAL OFFER is posted on the home page of the website at www.misterbassclef.com - get either 2 FREE or 4 FREE Note Reading books!
