Juneteenth Festival 2017 at Baily Park, Innovation Quarter in Downtown Winston-Salem! Thanks to a grant from the Provost at Wake Forest, we were able to print a series of Ann Nguyen's recent photographs and hang them in the Tent. By showing a range of skin tone colors in self identified people of color, these large photos confront us with the ways that photography uses an idea of 'normalcy'. We got a great response from the diverse audience at Juneteenth! Ann and I will bring the show to the quad at Wake Forest in September.

We brought Big Tent to the Juneteenth Festival on Saturday, June 21 and helped the African-American community celebrate the anniversary of freedom. This was a lively event with lots of music and food, and Big Tent felt right at home! We started a project called 'Rings of Truth'- interlocking cardboard and paper rings with quotes and messages hung from the tent, and used this occasion to honor Dr. Maya Angelou by quoting some of her wonderful words.
