2016—The National Education Association created the program (Read Across America) in 1998 to spur interest in reading. In cooperation with Seuss Enterprises, the Cat-in-the-Hat has become the national symbol for the effort. But a recent look at reading research called her to question her stance—and now she says all students should learn this way.

This was an extraordinary year including 8 authors. It was bigger and better than ever. Melinda Russell coordinated this event (with the Simon's Kidgit Club) for many years for the FCEA. This was Mrs. Russell's final year due to retiring in June. Jackie Read will be the new coordinator for 2017. How appropriate is it for the Read Across America Book Blast chairperson to have a last name as "READ." She will be great!!!!
