Even a rock in the water can provide a habitat for a critter! Call it a critter baby nursery!

Aqua Force was visited by Carmen Agouridis from the University of Kentucky. She is providing her expert advice for enhancing and maintaining the health of the portion of Lower Howard's Creek that runs behind GRC. Our goal is to be good stewards of this natural resource. More on our plan as it develops!

Aqua Force welcomed a distinguished visitor this morning! Clare Sipple joined us for conversations about Lower Howard's Creek and Kentucky River Authority! The bonus was listening to stories of the history of the GRC property and learning of environmental concerns and positives in Clark County. Best news of all is that she will come back and share again soon! Thank you, Clare!

Dr. Hanley has contacted several of her colleagues asking them to support the work and learning by Aqua Force. We should be hearing from soil specialists, GIS maps and images experts, entomologists, and someone to teach students how to upload photos of the creek to Google Earth!

Dr. Hanley has contacted another colleague asking them to offer us guidance in understanding the hydrology of the stream behind the school and what stream restoration means! This is our main goal, to learn how to protect the stream and perhaps how to improve it.

We envision the creek, which we have named Cardinal Cove, to become an outdoor classroom for other science classes, and even the arts and language arts students! By the end of this school year, we intend to invite younger students from Clark County Schools to experience an environmental field trip planned and hosted by Aqua Force students.

Stay tuned for our progress! And if you want to offer your support and encouragement we would certainly appreciate it!

Aqua Force was visited on Tuesday 11/25 by Dr. Carol Hanley from the UK Office for Environmental Programs Outreach Services, College of Agriculture, Food and Environment. She brought us "gifts" of 3 LaMotte water quality test kits, 2 nets, water thermometers, a turbidity tube, all weather pen and notebook, and conductivity meter!
