This week, GCPSA welcomed PhD student Jack T. Koster for an engaging seminar titled, โBuzzing Systems: Unraveling the Inner Workings of Honeybees.โ
Attendees explored how honeybee colonies function as a superorganism โ with thousands of individual bees working together through chemical communication, nutrition, and developmental cues.
From pheromone-driven behaviors inside the hive to the processes that determine whether a bee becomes a worker or queen, the seminar highlighted how remarkably complex biological systems can emerge from simple interactions.
These insights are especially important because honeybees play a critical role in agricultural productivity and ecosystem health.
Thank you, Jack, for sharing your work and contributing to the GCPSA - Gulf Coast Post-Doc and Student Association Spring Seminar Series.
