Laying down with your infant chest to chest is considered tummy time.

Your term baby is ready for tummy time within the first week of life. Tummy time strengthens the large muscle groups and improves coordination which is important for future skill development. Tummy time improves future skills like crawling and even coloring! 💛

Back in February we hosted our Tummy Time and Nursery Rhymes playgroup at .

Caregivers and their pre-crawlers joined us at the brewery for a morning play group before the doors opened for the day. Everyone participated in our welcome song, introducing their infants by name. Caregivers learned how to sing to their babies and incorporate gestures/movements during nursery rhymes. During the group we talked about tummy time woes and ways to make it more engaging and enjoyable for everyone!

After the group, families connected and took advantage of the brewery discount they received for participating and chatted about their parenting experiences.

A mature swallowing pattern occurs when the tongue tip is elevated toward the roof of the mouth. This happens with open cup drinking! An immature swallowing pattern occurs when the tongue is thrusted in a forward position. This immature swallowing pattern and tongue positioning is what we see when babies drink from a sippy cup.
