Call for Papers! 30th Carolina Conference for Romance Studies

Dialogues on Difference and Identity in Romance Studies @ the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on April 17-18, 2026.

Submission Deadline: January 31st 2026

Please submit abstracts of up to 250 words using the submission form via the CCRS website (ccrs.unc.edu). The deadline for submission is January 31st, 2026. We welcome papers submitted in French, English, Italian, Portuguese, or Spanish. Panel proposals and roundtables that are language and/or topic-specific are also welcomed, and each participant should individually complete a submission form. Both undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to apply. Completing the application takes as little as 90 seconds, and you can return to complete essays or short answers later for maximum scholarship consideration.

Important Dates:
• Priority Deadline: March 1, 2026 (11:59 PM)
• Final Deadline: June 1, 2026

To receive full consideration for the widest range of awards, current students should submit by the priority deadline.

Important Notes:
• One application = consideration for scholarships across UNCW (departments, colleges, Alumni Association, Honors, and more!)
• Some renewable scholarships require reapplication.
• Need-based scholarships require a valid 2026–2027 FAFSA. FAFSA is already open, completing it by February 1, 2026 improves your chances.
• June 1 deadline is primarily for new graduate students and new transfers admitted after March 1.

If you haven’t registered yet, now is the perfect time to secure your spot in our exciting lineup of graduate courses for Spring 2026!

First up we have Back to the Future: Spain through (The Ministry of) Time! SPN 511 meets every Thursday @ 5:00–7:30 PM (via Zoom) with Professor Gordon.
Travel across centuries with El Ministerio del Tiempo as you explore Spanish history, culture, language variation, gender conflict, and interreligious dynamics, all through a modern lens.

Secondly, we have A Land on Fire: Representations of the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939) instructed by Professor Rivero-Navarro. SPN 521 meets every Tuesday @ 5:00–7:30 PM (via Zoom).
Study literature, film, testimonies, speeches, art, and more to understand how the Spanish Civil War continues to shape identity, politics, and culture.

Last but not least, we have Illness, Disability, and Metaphor in Latin American Literature instructed by Professor Brignole. SPN 522 meets every Monday @ 5:00–7:30 PM (via Zoom).
Explore how illness and disability operate as both lived experiences and metaphors in Latin American literature, from the 19th century to today.

Job Opportunity : Lecturer in Spanish at UNCW

The Department of World Languages and Cultures at the University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applicants for up to two nine-month non-tenure track Lecturer in Spanish positions to begin August 2026.

Primary responsibilities include:
• Teaching four courses per semester, primarily face-to-face at the introductory and intermediate levels
• Additional courses may be assigned depending on departmental needs and the candidate’s area of expertise
