Don’t mistake this for laziness or not keeping track of a child’s progress. We absolutely should make sure our kids are learning and progressing, but we aren’t competing with anyone. We are letting our kids learn and develop at their own pace, while making sure they have all the resources they need to make that progress.

It is so easy to get caught up in the comparison trap and feel like we aren't doing "enough" early on. But childhood isn't a race to the finish line. The richest learning at five years old happens through muddy hands, scraped knees, imaginative games, and fresh air.

The numbers speak for themselves.

Last week on my podcast, I addressed questions like, "Am I doing this right?" and "Will homeschooling mess up my kids?"

Not only do the official government stats show that public schools are failing students miserably, we now have updated research that shows homeschoolers are doing better than ever.

A newly released peer-reviewed study—the first nationwide homeschool achievement study in 15 years—provides new nationwide data on homeschool student achievement and parents' reasons for homeschooling.

Researchers found that homeschool students scored substantially above the norm group in reading, language, math, social studies, and science. The study also found that student achievement was generally not associated with family income, parent education levels, or whether the teaching parent held state teacher certification.

Dr. Brian Ray of National Home Education Research Institute joined me on this week's podcast to discuss this latest study and the findings.
