At the 2026 Symposium, Holly Marsden will speak on the imagery of the English monarchs William and Mary, together and apart, on commemorative ceramics to explore their complex reputations both in court and on the street. Their unusual succession prompted a need to allay fears with imagery, and their state portraiture demonstrates intentional image-building. Marden was an assistant curator of research at Historic Royal Palaces, focusing predominantly on the Queen's State Apartments at Kensington Palace.

🏛️A Day at the Philadelphia Museum of Art
🗓️ September 18, 2026, 10:30-2:30pm

The Decorative Arts Society (DAS) has planned a day of decorative arts at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. It will begin with a tour of Workshop of the World: Arts and Crafts in Philadelphia, led by co-curators David Barquist, the H. Richard Dietrich, Jr. Curator of American Decorative Arts, and Colin Fanning, the Louis C. Madeira IV Assistant Curator of European Decorative Arts. After lunch at the museum cafe, Alexandra Kirtley, the Montgomery-Garvan Curator of American Decorative Arts, will lead a tour of A Nation of Artists. Participants will be able to enjoy the museum on their own following the tours. Many ceramics are featured in both exhibitions.

Cost: Adults, $28; Seniors (65+), $26; Students (19+ with student ID), $12. Register through the Decorative Arts Society.
