Caring for a collection this large takes ongoing work behind the scenes. Routine cleanings help preserve all 89 sculptures spread across Wichita State’s campus.

Wichita State alum Denning Gerig has been named director of broadcasting and will take over play-by-play duties for men’s basketball and baseball beginning in 2026–27. A familiar voice to Shocker fans, Gerig has called baseball, volleyball and basketball on ESPN+ and served alongside Mike Kennedy on the road for Shocker baseball.

Gerig steps into the role following the iconic Mike Kennedy, whose 46-year career helped define generations of Shocker Athletics.
