M3 — Mentor • Motivate • Make an Impact

A great first session with our Derby High School military-connected students!

Working alongside our Child & Youth Programs Teen Coordinator, we talked with students about the purpose of M3 and made one thing clear: they are not forgotten. M3 is about staying connected, providing support, and connecting students with resources, and teen event opportunities on and off base.

More importantly, we gave our military-connected students a voice. They shared what they would like to do, learn about, and discuss during our future visits so we can help shape M3 around what matters to them.

Our Military & Family Life Counselor (MFLC) also shared how she can support students when needed and her location in the school.

During lunch, we had the opportunity to connect with even more DHS students. They spun the wheel, answered a question, picked a prize — and they completely wiped us out! Ohh Well! 😄

We’re excited about where this can go.

We were proud to partner with Wichita Public Schools during Apply Kansas Week to support both military-connected and non-military students as they prepare for their futures.

Through a student-focused, partnership-driven approach, we supported 7 of 11 high school career fairs, including the parent and student career fair. Alongside our Child and Youth Programs (CYP) Teen Coordinator, we engaged with approximately 800 high school seniors and parents to share resources, opportunities, and information to help students explore their next steps.

Thank you to Wichita Public School and all the community partners who invested their time and support in making Apply Kansas Week meaningful for students and families.

****Update: Afternoon Pre-K for schools that start at 8 a.m. is canceled for today.

***Update: All after-school programs, activities and athletic practices on WPS property are canceled for today, Wednesday, Sept 16. Athletic events that are hosted out-of-district will be determined on a case-by-case basis.

No school for any 9 a.m. start WPS elementary schools today, Wednesday, Sept. 16, due to the boil water advisory. Students at latchkey at these schools will need to be picked up as soon as possible.

Determinations about Sept. 17 will be made when more information is available.

Schools that are already in session and 9 a.m. secondary start schools will continue as normal.

Come connect with other students, learn about resources and opportunities, and find ways to get involved throughout the school year.

M3 is open to students connected to all branches and components of the military — Active Duty, Guard, Reserve and Retired — as well as students whose parents are federal employees.
