Wichita Public Schools-STEALTH Afterschool

We are thrilled to announce that we received two new 21st CCLC awards from KSDE. One award will continue the STEALTH Afterschool program at Washington Elementary School, and the other award will start a new STEALTH program at Cessna Elementary. We can't wait to see the amazing things these programs create in this five-year grant cycle.

Due to the predicted thunderstorms and the potential for severe weather this afternoon, we are allowing parents and guardians to pick up their children early before the storms arrive. We will not be dismissing school early, but parents can pick up their children.

All elementary and middle school after-school activities will be canceled, including middle school after-school programs. Elementary latchkey will continue after school, but we encourage families to pick up their children early if they are able to do so.

Students at Linwood STEALTH have a variety of clubs to choose from- this month world drums and yoga were popular choices.

On Fridays, students in Adams STEALTH look forward to rotating theme nights. These pictures were from a Build-It Friday!

The 24-25 STEALTH programs kicked off yesterday with Anderson, Gordon Parks, Linwood, and Ortiz's first days. Adams and Washington will begin after Labor Day. Looking forward to another awesome year full of learning and fun!

First Tee Greater Wichita worked with several of our STEALTH schools through the year teaching golf mixed with life lessons. They just received a grant that enabled them to completely waive our program fees for the year! Our students and programs are made better by generous community partners like First Tee.

A special visitor, Drago the therapy dog, visited some of our students in their STEALTH Program tonight at Spaght Elementary. He was a big and mighty dog, but despite his appearance, he was incredibly lovable! The kids were amazed by his friendly demeanor and couldn't get enough of him. We sure enjoyed this special treat!

*STEALTH is Future Ready!* Last week we launched a new program for STEALTH where we bring professionals in to talk to the students about careers. It’s never too early to be future ready and we want to open students’ eyes to the many career choices available to them in Wichita and beyond.

Our first visitors were the WPD K-9 unit at Gordon Parks and the WPD CSI unit at Spaght. Students were very curious about the officers and asked lots of thoughtful questions. We can’t wait to see WPD at Anderson and Adams this week, and we are excited to have more career visitors in the future.

First Tee Greater Wichita is a community partner that worked with many of our STEALTH schools throughout the fall. They bring all the equipment and help students learn the basics of golf while practicing life skills like managing emotions, resolving conflict, and appreciating diversity. We love First Tee! , ,

Washington students work on sewing projects, practice fine motor skills by making bracelets, create garden pods, and finish up holiday art projects.
