🎓Senior Spotlight: Madison Askew 🎓
Meet Madison, a senior at Derby High School!
Madison is involved in volleyball and competes in shot put for track. She is also a member of Madrigals, the Philharmonic Choir and National Honor Society (NHS), where she was elected secretary.
One of the highlights of Madison’s senior year has been being selected for Homecoming court.
“I am so excited,” she said. “I was anxious almost every day and then Mrs. Wilson called me out with Sophie (Segelke) and Alijah (Jones) during choir and told us we made court.”
Throughout high school, Madison has earned several accomplishments. She has qualified for state in shot put every year since her freshman year and placed eighth at state this past year.
Madison joined Philharmonic her sophomore year and Madrigals her junior year. She is performing her first concert of the year today, October 1, at 7PM.
After graduation, Madison plans to continue playing volleyball while pursuing a career in medicine.
“I want to find a school where I can play volleyball first. Secondly, I want to major in pre-med and then I want to get my PhD in epidemiology,” she said.
Madison encourages younger students to not feel pressured to have everything figured out. “You don’t have to have your life figured out when you’re 13 years old.”
