Who knew bedtime for our newly adopted cow could be so labor-intensive and prompt so many inquiries? Here are a few of the most pressing questions that arose while we were viewing pictures of our new calf. Where was her cow mommy? What does she eat? Will she experience sadness when she cries? Does she need to be burpes for her tummy ache? I reassured them that we could consult Farmer Stacy regarding Cary's mother. One little one was relieved to learn that Cary's cow mother was, in fact, Farmer Stacy. I procured a cow kit from Discover Dairy, which included a cow stuffy for snuggling and caring, as well as tracking our virtual cow's growth. The kit also included a journal to record our progress and adventures. Another provider suggested a real-life calf bottle. Tonight, we prepared a bed and ensured our stuffy had her own cow baby, pacifier, farmer, chicken, and milk nearby in case she required a snack during the night. 🌙

Someone was excited about one of our little tomatoes that had turned yellow.

So, we sat them in the window and made up a story based on our observations.

"4 Little Tomatoes"

Four little tomatoes
Sitting in the window
Watching the traffic go by
They saw big trucks and little trucks,
Cars of all sizes.
There were tractors doing tractor things,
And a big mower mowing the field across the street.
Oh, how long will it take before all of the tomatoes are yellow and ready to eat?

The month of October has been dedicated to the celebration of apples, allowing us to foster a deeper appreciation through our varied activities. As the featured Kansas Harvest of the Month, apples have taken center stage in our educational experiences, with our engagement encompassing a comprehensive range of activities, including slicing, dicing, cooking, and eating them whole. We also created our own mini apple pies. With the assistance of magnifying glasses 🔎, we conducted a detailed examination of the internal and external characteristics of apples. Our in-depth study of apple tree growth revealed the crucial role leaves play in enhancing the sweetness of apples. Additionally, we carried out an experiment to ascertain whether our apples would sink or float. On Wednesday, we participated in a national CACFP crunch off, emphasizing the importance of consuming locally sourced produce and supporting local farmers and the economy. Throughout the year, we strive to source food items locally, as exemplified by the plate of food pictured, which features items sourced from within our city and a neighboring town.
