I was standing outside when I saw this teenage kid walking by with a bucket and when he gave me the biggest smile I asked, “what are you up to?”

He told me he’s trying to clean cars to earn enough money to go fishing next weekend.

I can’t even remember the last time I’ve seen a kid out trying to earn money like this… so I quickly asked if he’d do both of our cars.

When I came out with a $100 bill I’ve been hoarding for vacation the look on his face… like someone had just handed him the keys to a brand new car.

My husband came out and asked what was going on and when I told him the kid is working to go fishing next weekend it was like something in him just shifted.

My husband didn’t say much after that just turned…..walked straight into the garage and started pulling everything down.

Wheel spray. Special wash. The right rags…..All of his detailing supplies… the kind you don’t just hand out but hand down.

I watched from the window as he got down beside him and started showing him not only how to use it but to tell him, he could have all of it and that it was now his.

Didn’t rush him.
Didn’t brush him off.

Just Walked him through it like it mattered… like he mattered.

And you could see it in that boy’s face the moment it clicked that someone believed in him.

And believed in his fishing weekend.

So now they’re currently sitting together on the sidewalk making a post on Nextdoor to help him get started with our address on it so he can do peoples cars at our house to stay safe.

All of this… just because a kid wanted to go fishing and happened to knock on the door of a man who once had to figure it all out on his own too 🥹🫶🏼

I have to take a moment out today to tell my oldest sister Happy Birthday. In case I haven't told you lately I love you and am so glad you are my sister
