This opportunity is especially meaningful because the work highlighted in my contributions reflects what I have witnessed throughout my career as a school counselor, student support leader, and advocate for trauma-informed and neuro-affirming practices. Too often, students navigating trauma, chronic stress, marginalization, or neurodivergence are misunderstood as “defiant,” “disruptive,” or “unmotivated,” when what they truly need is connection, support, and systems designed to recognize root causes rather than simply respond to behavior.

I am grateful to contribute to a resource that uplifts the essential role school counselors play in building Tier 2 and Tier 3 systems of support — systems that are responsive, equitable, collaborative, and grounded in the belief that every student deserves to be understood before they are judged.
