If God be for us then who can be against us? Chasing history and sunken treasure alike, we take YOU on the journey through social media & presentations!

The pet project of maritime collector and amateur historian Matthew Smathers... Storied Treasures website FINALLY got a small facelift and HOLY CRAP has it been a YEAR since I opened a ticket with those stupid Merch suppliers!? Yoikes! 😳

Added a new page to site for news and latest happenings... Because in the last 2 months there's been a LOT!

One thing that is currently in the works, is an independent magazine that I will be publishing and selling from a booth that I just opened in the city of San Pedro. Speaking of booths, the 'Storied Treasures Emporium' will also (apart from a merchandise outlet) be a semi platform for me to teach within the local community. Lately a lot of local happenings have been 'happening' lol and I apologize for the silence.

I would love nothing more on than to go back to the way I used to be... Where I could post and share everything and anything while it was being developed. Unfortunately, circumstances and prior sabotage won't allow me. So, trust me when I say, I am not dead, and neither is Storied Treasures. We just need to get ourselves back on track and that takes time. But God has been opening a lot of doors lately, and things are getting pretty exciting over here 😁 a lot in the pipeline.

Also can I say just for the record... How refreshing It is see so many smiling faces looking at this beautiful model as I transport it on the bus?

The past few da....no...the past few weeks have been an absolute blur of activity over here....

A new book project, multiple articles written, got some business venture kicking off in the next 2 weeks... Two brand new music videos in the pipeline... 15 new songs for the upcoming channel relaunch... Caught the Union Pacific Big Boy, And last but absolutely in no way shape or form the least.... The engagement to my longtime (20yr) friend and 'occasional girlfriend' (lol) Brittney on the 18th.

To say things have been busy is the understatement of the millennium thus far... A lot of exciting things are in the pipeline and I'm hoping following the next week or two I should have more consistent updates and planned posts to share. Not only posting for historical stuff, but also doing a bit more channel promotion for the music and for the storied treasures YouTube channel.

Oh and there's also a cruise... So yeah there's quite a bit in store lol 🤣

Don't ask me how I'm juggling all of this because God only knows and I'm just trusting him because with so much insanity and stuff going on I can do absolutely nothing but just that.

"This world's, lost it's mind, It's plain to see... But there's no changing, a single thing I believe. That my Savior died, and Rose again that third day. The son of God most high, he came to save us all equally.

*Chorus*
In the Shadow of Golgotha, I'm covered by his grace. By the power of his love, my heart has been restored. In the shelter of his arms, I'll stand forevermore. His life given up for me... My souls been reborn. In the Shadow of Golgotha, cleansed by his blood."
------------------------------------------------------

A small excerpt of the lyrics I wrote from a song appropriately titled "In the Shadow of Golgotha." The song was written as a reflection of my own faith and belief in the Lord Jesus Christ, and that, despite my shortcomings and failures, Christ has always been the rock of my foundation. The Cornerstone of just about everything that I dream and scheme to do. I would have liked to release the song for Easter weekend, but it will be a little bit late. So much has (Praise God) been happening over here lately, everything from business dealings to serious life-altering decision making. There may or may not be more on all this next week.

Still, all good things, and I feel like, once again, Gods been nudging me in the direction of some good old fashioned 'Forced Growth.' So we'll see how that all goes... meantime, lets all take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of todays festivities... the day Death was Conquered, the spike broken... the cloth folded... the tomb... EMPTY.

"He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay" - Matthew 28:6

"O death, where is thy victory, O grave, where is thy sting?" - 1 Corinthians 15:55

God bless you all this Easter Sunday, as with every day. HE IS RISEN INDEED!!

There's too many April fools posts on Facebook... So here's two nice shots of an appropriate Clive Cussler book with my watch (a Seahunter edition) and the Lane Victory Lol

A long awaited update:

The past several months have seen a flurry of activity off page...

1. Revisions are underway for the website, the format is being changed to something a bit more simplistic.

2. Talks are underway for a physical brick and mortar shop to sell the numerous artifacts and relics I've collected through the years.

3. I shall be playing host to an upcoming Titanic function locally and displaying my 'choice pieces' as I talk about the ill-fated liner

4. Some of my music I've written has been tossed around and submitted for review for purchase *Crosses fingers*

5. There are now TWO Youtube Channels connected to my flagship 'Storied Treasures' and more on that later.

6. I may be returning to my old haunts... as a custom jewelry designer

7. And last but not least... I will soon be publishing a quarterly PULP STYLE MAGAZINE showcasing my previous expeditions, adventures, travels, and of course, the archival material I've collected these past 8 years.

Life has been a flurry of activity, and this doesn't even begin to describe my 'Personal' life or the aspects of me on the Lane Victory. I appreciate the patience everyone has shown, it has gone on far too long and Im feeling that the 'breakout' will be sooner than later, but then again I've said that before. Even so, expect some major overhauling before the Month of April comes to an end!

God only knows how this will all go... but I think I'm walking in the right direction now.

Forgive me for my silence... there has been quite a bit going on in my personal life, both with illness and with some personal developments which, as amazing as they can potentially be, are currently in the works and yet to be set in stone.

2025 ended with a crescendo of small victories and developments. Unfortunately, quite a few of them had to be put on hold for a few weeks as I recovered from a sudden illness... that being said. I am back on my feet and taking steps forward towards what I pray is a prosperous new year.

2026 Updates SO FAR...

1. New publications are soon on the way to my website, with condensed versions for Facebook... of historical articles I am writing for a local paper.

2. My YouTube channel is undergoing a small facelift, which should be done in a week tops... and I launched a SECOND channel to showcase music I've written that I want to share with people.

3. I've been scheduled to give TWO separate presentations about historical treasure and wrecks local to the area.. One for January, the other for February.

4. As part of one presentation, I shall be revisiting a location I have not set foot in almost 15 years to do a new video presentation for the channel.

5. I have a 'Film recreation' in the works, and one that, I pray, will be completed by May of this year for a full and formal indie release.

6. I have begun to work more intensively on my 'jalopy' to bring it up to spec for being road worthy, I pray, by Spring... which will also bring about its own unique 'twist' to how I do things moving forward.

7. Perhaps the biggest development is one I cannot talk about... a possible partnership. Something I've prayed, begged, and fought for years... till now, all in vain... and at the expense of so many lost projects and stolen work. This time... I feel it's going to be different, but I'm not going to say more until a physical paper is signed. I've learned my lesson.

So yeah... a lot is happening... All of it in a serious direction. I wish I could be less 'vague' but another hard lesson I've learned, is the old expression still holds true...

"Loose Lips, Sink Ships"

And I am fed up with being sunk. Takes a lot of effort and energy to salvage myself from where I was last run aground, both from my own mistakes, and the misguided trust in others. Now... I'm back on my feet... and here I intent to stay.

THAT is my declaration, and that is my Prayer for this new year.

So.. as always, stay tuned, its gonna be different.

((Also, cool pic aint it? Wish I could say it was REAL! LOL! Ai is truly terrifying ain't it?))

Heading into 2026 be like...

Lol, Wishing all my friends and family a HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! Here's hoping once I clear these next 'few waves' things will be smooth sailing. 2025 was a rollercoaster, and I had intended to post much much more than I did, but alas, illness and family obligations got in the way. I've weathered most of the storm, and as the pun goes there's got to be "A morning after."

So chin up, batten down, and full steam ahead to 2026! Good things on the horizon so long as I don't give up!

On December 7th, 1941, it was a peaceful Sunday, the United States Pacific fleet was at rest...

Ashore Church services were underway, while back on battleship row, Naval personnel were preparing to raise flags and perform ceremonies. All was peaceful and quiet until about 7:45am when the drone of planes could be heard growing ever louder. Many eyes were cast skyward, but the buzz of so many aircraft didn't alert the personnel on the ground, just caused most to question "Why the hell is the army flying drills on a Sunday???"

Within minutes, however, "...at 7:55am hell broke loose, man-made hell...made in Japan"

Japanese bomber planes flew in precision towards the airfields of Ford Island, at Hickam, Wheeler, and Bellows field. Planes that were lined up for protection against possible sabotage were like ducks in a shooting gallery. Along battleship row, the big guns of the United States Pacific fleet were capped, silent, and asleep as torpedo after torpedo were let loose in the shallow water. Within minutes the battleship Oklahoma and Tennesee were bracketed by several bombs and torpedoes. The U.S.S. Oklahoma was a prime target for the bombers, and she rolled upside-down following almost a dozen torpedo hits.....trapping hundreds of sailors inside.

The greatest death blow came to the U.S.S. Arizona, the flagship of the United States Pacific fleet. Almost immediately following the bombing, Arizona rang General Quarters and the crew snapped into action. Her guns were raised and many of the crew began to fight back. Arizona was struck by a bomb near her stern which caused minor damage, however, high above the ship, at 8:06am, a bomber let lose a bomb made from a converted battleship shell and it landed directly onto the Arizonas forward deck near gun-turret #2. The bomb penetrated deep into the ships hull and landed amidst the ships ammunition locker where all the shells, tnt, and gunpowder were stored.

The explosion was terrific, the massive battleship heeled her back, the bow rose up out of the water, the deck hinged, men's eyes widened in horror, and all in a single instant.... the U.S.S. Arizona was blown in half. As she settled into the bottom mud of Pearl Harbor she took with her 1,177 men out of her 1,512 crew and soldiers stationed onboard.

The Attack on Pearl Harbor persisted for well into the morning, stopping sometime after 9am. In all the United States shot down 29 Japanese planes, and sank 5 midget-type submarines. The statistics were clear, however, on who the REAL victor of the day was...

The Imperial Japanese forces had decimated the American forces in Pearl Harbor...

Over 2,400 Americans were killed, at least 1,104 wounded., with every battleship in the Pacific fleet being either sunk or critically damaged. Hundreds of planes had been hit, and 75 percent of the planes and their airfields surrounding Pearl Harbor were damaged or destroyed outright.

The attack which occurred on this date 80yrs ago has sadly begun to slip from the minds of many, and though there are survivors and veterans who remain, they are few and soon....VERY SOON.... Pearl Harbor will fade from human memory to become little more than a passing moment in history, a legacy, that we'd do well to REMEMBER lest we repeat the same mistakes that led up to it.

On this DECEMBER 7th, 'I' REMEMBER PEARL HARBOR!

The event spurred my Grandfather, and many other Fathers, Grandfathers, Brothers, Uncles, And Loved ones to enlist and put a stop to the madness which had swept the world. For many, THIS EVENT was the trigger... and until the events of September 11th, 2001, it was never to be touched for loss of life, and the shock it created.
