Today we honor and remember my daughter, Elena Jasmir Lozada, on her birthday, keeping her beautiful spirit close to our hearts.
Her life was tragically cut short in 2010, and we miss her and love her every single day. She is forever in our hearts.
Elena faced her own mental health struggles, yet she always dreamed of earning a college degree. To honor her life, her dreams, and her incredible spirit, we started the Elena Jasmir Lozada Memorial Fund at Northern Maine Community College. The fund supports students who are navigating mental health challenges, helping provide the resources they need to stay in school and continue their education — something Elena deeply hoped to do herself.
The fund is close to reaching endowment level, which would allow it to help students for many years to come. If you feel moved to donate, even a small amount, it would mean so much to our family and to the students whose lives will be touched in Elena’s name.
