Back Cove Books & Portland Ovations are proud to present bestselling author and illustrator, Peter Brown Studio at the Westbrook Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, June 24th at 5:30 PM.

Celebrate the launch of THE WILD ROBOT ON THE ISLAND, the gorgeous illustrated picture book version of the #1 New York Times bestselling novel The Wild Robot!

The afternoon includes a drawing demonstration from Peter Brown, the opportunity to take photos on Roz’s island, a scavenger hunt, and an interactive Roz activity! Peter will be available for book signings and we encourage all ages to join in on the festivities.

$10 per ticket + purchase of the book*
*For families of up to four individuals, only one copy of THE WILD ROBOT ON THE ISLAND is required. Individual tickets remain $10 per seat

We just wanted to take a minute to personally thank the The Frog and Turtle ... a gastro pub, in particular owner and head chef James Tranchemontagne. We are certainly sad to see you go. This restaurant has always been a favorite of our audiences for a preshow meal or post show drink. Perhaps more importantly, they offered live music multiple nights a week for years and years. Providing great music for their guests and great opportunities for local musicians while never asking for a cover charge.
Thank you to everyone at the restaurant, both past and present for adding so much to Westbrook. You will be missed.

Based on the classic by Bram Stoker, Portland Ballet audiences will see Dracula brought to life through the captivating art of ballet.

A really special press event in the theater this morning. The Maine Dept of Education in conjunction with the non-profit, I'm Your Neighbor Books, announced their PINE project- a statewide roll out of their Welcome Libraries. Each of these libraries provide 30 picture books that feature immigrant families and the diversity of America, so that students can see themselves and their families in the stories.
These libraries are going to be in every school district in Maine! That's over 6,000 books for kids for free. They come complete with their very own specially designed bookshelves to display them. Kudos to everyone involved in this and it was an honor for us to play a small part.

One of the unsung delights of seeing shows here at the WPAC is the art that always fills the display cases and the walls. The 2 art teachers, Abby Jacobs and Nancy Goan, are always coming up with creative ways for the students to express themselves. Audiences love it! A special shout out to Nancy who is retiring this year. Thank you Nancy for teaching so many people in this town about the joy they can find by being creative.

Congratulations to the Westbrook Middle School Art students for completing several new community art projects for all to enjoy. The newest project is the WMS Falcon Mural. Created by 6th-8th graders and facilitated by Ms. Jacobs and Ms. Goan, the mural utilizes concepts related to the elements and principles of design and color theory. A VERY SPECIAL shout-out to our one and only MS. GOAN for facilitating this project and so many more over her career at Westbrook Middle School. We wish her the very best in this next chapter. We know she will continue to inspire those around her and will spread her creativity wherever she goes next.
