It's been just over a year since Whole Story Studio moved into its new home, though really, this space has been about seven years in the making.
The journey from working in the spare bedroom next to the kitty litter to this cozy studio, complete with everything one could ever need for professional audiobook production, has taken years. And I’m still a little in awe that I ended up here.
As with building any business, there have been ups and downs, and plenty of moments when I have felt both totally sure of myself and completely out of my depth.
When I went from the desk in my spare bedroom (WSS V1) to renting a dedicated desk at 1909 (WSS V2) I was scared. I told myself I’d give it three months, and if it didn’t work, I’d go back to working from home. But the clients kept coming, and I kept falling more in love with the world of audiobook production.
When I went from the dedicated desk to my first office (WSS V3), I was, one again, scared.
But, this time, instead of giving myself a way out, I realized that if I wanted to keep growing, then I was gonna need a bigger boat. And I had to do it scared.
Enter WSS V4: a perfectly cozy space built for audiobooks, podcasts, and the people who make them.
Every time I walk into my studio, I’m reminded of how far this little business has come. Whole Story Studio truly is the culmination of everything I love: good stories, good audio, and good people.
I’m so grateful to everyone who has trusted me with their words, their voices, their books, their podcasts, their ideas, and their stories. And I’m especially grateful to the 1909 community, which has supported me through every version of this business and helped make this next chapter possible.
I love this space. I love what we’re building here. And I hope you’ll come see it, record in it, create in it, or just stop by and say hello.
Here’s to one year in the new studio — and to the many stories (and future versions of Whole Story Studio!) still to come.
