One of the biggest marketing myths I see? “If this post went viral organically, I should just put money behind it.” Not exactly. Organic content and paid ads have two very different jobs.
A post can take off organically because people are sharing it, commenting on it, or relating to it in the moment. That doesn’t automatically mean it will perform well as an ad. Once you put money behind it, the algorithm changes, your audience changes, and the goal changes.
In fact, boosting a viral post doesn’t usually make it more viral.
Paid ads work best when they’re built with a clear objective whether that’s generating leads, driving sales, or getting email signups, not just because a post got a lot of likes.
Viral doesn’t always equal conversions.
Instead of asking, “What got the most views?” ask, “What actually moved people to take action?” Those are often two very different pieces of content.
Save this for the next time you’re tempted to hit the Boost button.
