What a wonderful way to end 2025 and kick off 2026 on a high note! On Saturday morning, I received complimentary copies of my first book, entitled Multiscale Structural Mechanics: Top-down Modeling of Composite Structures Using Mechanics of Structure Genome, from Wiley.
My children shared my joy—especially when they discovered their names are mentioned in the book, and twice!
I’m also deeply grateful to R. Byron Pipes, who encouraged me to bring this decade-long project to completion and graciously wrote the foreword. I also thank Wayne Chen for his strong support of this effort. Last but not least, I appreciate the support from different levels of the university including but not limited to Purdue School of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Cristina Farmus, Billie Johnson
I now recommend this book with humility—and with an earnest prayer that it may do some good to you and your library. I’m sure it has its many defects, and I genuinely welcome your suggestions. Please feel free to share comments below, or reach me through community.cdmHUB.org.

This post is a result of discussions with a group of aerospace structural engineers. Why smearing properties are still needed for composite laminates? What will be the correct approach to compute these properties? Feel free to leave your comments.
How to compute smear properties for laminates?
The following is a summary from a recent discussion within the AIAA Structures Technical Committee. The problem was brought up by an engineering from a major aerospace company. During initial sizing of composite aerospace structures, the input is not a stacking sequence but a representation of the p...

Top experts may “hallucinate,” too. 😱
An interesting story happened in the 40th anniversary celebration of the American Society for Composites. All originally thought it was hallucinated by CompositesAI, the error actually originates from Composites Science and Technology by one of the top experts who should have the most accurate information 😂
Top experts may “hallucinate,” too. 🤯
At the 40th ASC anniversary, Prof. R. Byron Pipes gave a great talk on ASC history—highlighting James Whitney (Tom Whitney’s father), our first ASC president. During his remarks, he showed CompositesAI’s answer to who is James Whitney with a wrong starting date for ASC (Fig. 1). As everyone in...
