Meet the Board ✨

Today we’re introducing you to Anthony Mena, Ph.D. Candidate in Chemistry and President of LGSO 🧪🎸

From crocheting flowers and amigurumis to playing five different instruments, Anthony brings creativity, passion, and community-centered leadership to LGSO.

For Anthony, LGSO is all about one thing: community.
For him, graduate school can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be something you go through alone. Building connections, showing up for each other, and creating spaces where we can grow together — that’s what this organization is all about 🤍

His advice? Just show up.
Whether it’s coming to an event, stopping by Ponte Las Pilas, or simply starting a conversation — there’s always space for you here.

👀 Stay tuned for his Instagram Takeover soon

✨ Meet the Board ✨

Today we are introducing Karen Alvarez, Treasurer of LGSO and a Master’s student in Educational Psychology and Research Methodology.
Karen enjoys organizing her finances, building budget spreadsheets, and learning about investing. In her free time, she loves reading books about vampires and dragons, proudly embracing her fan-fiction era. 🐉📚

For Karen, LGSO represents meaningful change and community. Through the organization, she has connected with passionate and diverse students, building relationships that inspire growth, collaboration, and support.

She also reminds Purdue students that you don’t have to navigate grad school alone. Whether you need focused writing time or want to build community, LGSO creates spaces where students can support each other.

👀 Want to learn more about Karen?
Don’t miss her Instagram takeover tomorrow, where she’ll share more about her experience, her role in LGSO, and a bit of her daily life.
