On this week's podcast, I talk about everything tight hip joints.

I answer the question: Can you open space in a tight joint without surgery or injections after 40?

The answer is yes, but you can’t do it with stretching or strengthening.

Learn about 2 types of motion in the show this week. One you have partial control over, and the other you can’t voluntarily stretch or strengthen.

But you can open the space, and I will tell you how you can do that in the show.

Enjoy the podcast and YouTube video.

We went down south and found this lovely place in Bellevue, KY. Outdoor band, lots of hips moving to the beat of some great tunes.

The studio is closed today.

I am out with my family enjoying a few days of fun.

You can still schedule a session while I am out. Link below.

Ollie is my son-in-law. He has been coming to me for years to keep his joints healthy and his muscles activated and working. Today Ollie tried the selfie wall, and if you look at his hips, they are tight like mine.

Do you see a pattern here?

Hips are one of the most important joints in our bodies. We need all the accessory motion and Range of Motion in our hips along with our feet and low backs to run, play, lift, sit, stand, and more.

I have been testing full-body healthy movement since 2019 and have not found 1 person who has not lost accessory hip, foot, ankle, and low back mobility in both ROM and accessory motion.

I have invented a test to check your joint health. This test provides you a healthy movement score and age. I would love to test your joints and help you restore and preserve your healthy movement.

How well are you moving? Our healthy movement wall shows that my bones are more flexible than me. Notice my hips when I cross my legs; I can’t stand up straight at the pelvis. My hip capsules are losing accessory motion. That is motion that is out of my voluntary control. I started noticing this about 10 years ago, and now in my 50’s I have been more symptomatic.

My goal is to not get hip osteoarthritis and to keep my joints and muscles healthy so that I can move well throughout my life.

I am working with a PT to open space up in my hip, low back, and ankle joints weekly and working on keeping my deep muscles and larger muscles, as well as my cells and nervous system, healthy and doing what they are supposed to do.

I am already moving better than I was last year, and I am shocked at how stiff I am when I miss a week working on my joints.

Come on in and take a selfie with our new wall and see how your hips are moving.

See you in the studio.

We have a new Healthy Movement Selfie Chalk Wall.

Meet the artist, Megan Jay. This piece took her over 10 hours of work, and it turned out beautiful.

Notice the flowers at the top of the wall. The flowers are all the birth flowers of my family, the Healthy Movement Wording is my book that is in final formatting right now. Keep your eyes out for when it comes out.

The title will be Healthy Movement

A Science Breakthrough For Moving Well For Life.

Then the dancing skeleton that is happy represents healthy movement which is how well you move every day of your life.

Megan did this entire piece custom for the studio, and I could not be happier.

Follow her to watch more of her amazing custom work.

Ever been to a surgeon due to knee pain and have him say. Go see a Stretch Mobility Coach as fast as you can, and keep seeing them. That is what will keep you off my surgical table.

No surgeon ever said that. Why? Because that is bad for business.

They are in the business of surgery, and they are good at surgery.

Now I am not saying seeing me will ensure you never have surgery, but what I can say is that people who see me for life don’t have debilitating pain, and they can do things they did in their younger years, because they have been keeping their muscles and joints healthy, with movement scores above 80. This score, when it's over 80, means that your joints and muscles have the capacity and function to allow movement in a healthy way.

Being eligible for surgery does not mean that surgery is your only option, but it does mean that your insurance will cover this surgical procedure.

In episode #248 on the Healthy Movement Podcast, I break down the knee over the years 30, 50, and 70 and show you the predictable movement decline path that ends up in a surgery.

I share a few client stories and go through the research and what I see in my studio. If you haven't caught that episode yet, I will put the YouTube and podcast links in the comments below.

This week on the podcast, I broke down what is actually happening inside your knee when you bend down.

Then I went looking for research, and I found a study that is more than 25 years old.

The study was done with people who already had knee osteoarthritis. They broke these people into 2 groups, 1 group did four weeks of PT. Eight sessions total.

And they did not only work the knee.

They worked the hip and the lumbar spine and the ankle too. Then they added rehab exercises on top of it.

Their pain and stiffness and function improved by more than half. A full year later they still had the gains.

Four weeks bought them a year.

So here is my question. What if you never stopped?

What if instead of four weeks you kept your joints tested and open and your muscles strong for the rest of your life? Could you be 70 and still moving like you want to move? Could you skip the operating room?

I cannot prove that. Nobody has run that study.

What I can tell you is what I watch happen. When we test the joints and open what is restricted and build the muscle back on top of it, people move better, and they keep it. That is not a four-week fix. That is a healthy movement system for life.

That study came out in the year 2000. Nobody tested those knees before the arthritis ever showed up. That is the part I want to change.

If you want to know how much of your normal movement is already gone, I will test you and give you your Healthy Movement Score. You will leave knowing exactly why your body feels tight and what to do about it.

Virtual and in-person sessions are available. Link to schedule in the comments.

Yesterday I posted about where to seek care when you have knee pain suddenly that does not go away.

Do you go to a doctor, a PT, a Stretch Mobility Coach Practitioner?

We have so many options, and frankly it can feel overwhelming and confusing.
If you did schedule a visit with a surgeon and you are over 70 with pain, you may get this response.

I am going to write you a script to see a PT for this pain.

You schedule with PT. The pain does not go away.

You return to the surgeon; he prescribes a cortisone injection. That does nothing for your pain.

Then you get this statement: “There is nothing else I can do for your knee pain”
What does that statement mean?

In this week's podcast episode #248, I break down knee pressure and knee pain with you.

I will post the episode for you down in the comments.

Imagine you woke up today with knee pain. This pain would not go away with anything that you do. It hurts to walk down stairs. It hurts to bend down to pick something up. It hurts when you stand for more than 5 min and it hurts when you walk.

What would you do if this happened to you?

Would you share what you would do with me?

You can unlock joint mobility that you thought you had lost. Your body loses key accessory joint motion and that loss of motion is not under your voluntary control. But a specialist can help you restore that motion and be able to do the things you thought you had lost to age.
