Congratulations, Carlos Francisco Cuellar! I am incredibly proud of you. Knowing the person you are, I have no doubt that you will lead with integrity and respect, and that student-athletes will benefit greatly from your experience and knowledge.

Weslaco ISD is proud to announce Carlos Cuellar as the next head football coach at Weslaco East High School. Cuellar has seven years of coaching experience and has spent the last season as co-offensive coordinator for the Wildcats.

Cuellar is a proud Weslaco East High School graduate from the class of 2012. Cuellar was an assistant coach, offensive coordinator and strength and conditioning coach at San Benito High School before returning to his alma mater. Cuellar earned three varsity letters at Weslaco East High School, including one each in football and powerlifting. Cuellar, during his senior year, was named second-team all-state lineman. He played two seasons at Mary Hardin-Baylor and finished his college career playing for the Texas A&M-Kingsville Javelinas.

Cuellar will be the third coach in the history of the Weslaco East Wildcats following in the footsteps of championship coaches Armando Cuellar Jr. and Mike Burget.

Cuellar was approved by the Weslaco ISD school board tonight.

Good Afternoon Citizens of Weslaco,

I want to begin by expressing my deepest gratitude to everyone who took the time to vote. Your participation is a testament to the strength and heart of our community. I’d also like to extend my sincere congratulations to Coach Serna on his victory, and a special acknowledgment to Chief Rivera for his courage in running. Putting yourself out there is never easy, and it speaks to his commitment to our city.

Last night, the people of Weslaco made their voices heard. While the results were not what I had hoped for, I respect and honor the choice of the majority. It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that I did not win this race for the Weslaco ISD School Board. However, I remain optimistic about the future. I fought the good fight, and my commitment to this community remains stronger than ever.

Although I won’t be serving on the board this term, I want you to know that I am still here for our students, parents, educators, and the community. I will continue to listen to your concerns, advocate for you, and maintain open lines of communication with school officials to ensure your voices are heard. My dedication to improving our schools and standing up for what’s best for our children has not wavered.

THANK YOU, once again for your unwavering support and belief in me. This is not the end—far from it. You will hear from me again, as I fully intend to continue pursuing opportunities to serve our community. Together, we will keep pushing for a better tomorrow. This isn’t my first rodeo, and it certainly won’t be my last.

With Gratitude and Hope,

Alfredo Duff Castaneda 🖤🤍💜
