All 12 of Washington's workforce boards, including SkillSource, signed an open letter to Governor Ferguson, which was recently sent by the Washington Workforce Association (WWA).The letter asks the Governor to:

- Release $5.5 million in unused WIOA set-aside funds through local workforce boards
- Invest those funds in Economic Security for All (EcSA), serving an estimated 1,100 more families
- Protect EcSA from further cuts, and grow it

WWA estimates the investment would generate more than $11 million in new wages and save the state $7.2 million in benefit costs. Please help us share this letter. Thank you!

Starting January 1, about 200,000 Washingtonians will need to meet new Medicaid work requirements to keep their health coverage. Many will turn to job training and employment programs that are already stretched thin. That's why we're asking Gov. Ferguson to release $5.5 million in unspent federal job-training funds now. Invested through local workforce boards, it could help more than 1,100 families and save the state more than $7.2 million.

Wrapping up Workforce Development Month with a hearty high-five and thank you to our fellow workforce boards, partners, and staff members throughout the state. It is through our collaboration and commitment to our communities that we consistently help people find careers that they love with the businesses who need them.

Within each of our 12 local workforce development areas across Washington, millions of people are dedicating their lives to helping others find and secure sustainable employment and build successful, thriving communities. “Workforce development” might not be a phrase we all use every day, but workforce development is what many of us actually do every day. If you have a job or are enrolled in school, if you help people get connected to resources or run a business of your own, guess what? You’re in workforce development too!

Ryan Beebout started at Sabey Data Centers fifteen years ago in an entry-level position before growing into his role as Regional Vice President. Anthony Popelier grew up around trades, worked his way up over twenty-six years, and now serves as Plant Manager for Oroville Reman & Reload. Both serve on the SkillSource board and both got there by stepping outside their comfort zones and taking on new challenges.

They talked about tracing the word "bandwidth" from sawmill saw blades to fiber optic networks, how their industries adapt to wildfire disruptions and power constraints, and why setting personal boundaries to make it home for dinner is essential for human capacity.
