💚💛Brooke High School students are at it again! I am proud to announce that BHS had THREE winners at the WVAEA YOUTH ART MONTH Statewide Art Competition! 💚💛

CONGRATULATIONS to:
🥇🏺Anneliese Schupbach (1st Place 3-D)
🥈💻Ava Rohr (2nd Place Digital Art)
🥉📸Kasey Johnson (3rd Place, Photography)

From Dr. Jeffrey Grubbs, WVAEA President:

"Congratulations WV Art Educators and their amazing students!

West Virginia, February 27, 2024 – The West Virginia Art Education Association (WVAEA) extends its heartfelt congratulations to the talented K-12 artists and educators from across the state of West Virginia for their outstanding participation in the WVAEA State Youth Art Month Exhibit.

Each year, the WVAEA provides a platform for West Virginia art educators and their students to showcase their artistic prowess, fostering creativity and artistic expression. This event not only celebrates the artistic achievements of our youth but also highlights the dedication and passion of their educators. This year we had 18 teachers come to Parkersburg Art Center for Day in the Studio as well as drop off their students' artwork for the YAM Competition. We had 51 WV art educators from 20 different counties enter their students artwork in the 2024 YAM competition.

For several years, the Parkersburg Arts Center has graciously hosted this enriching event, providing a vibrant space for young artists to display their creations and for the community to appreciate their talent.

This year, the WVAEA is proud to announce three esteemed donation sponsors: the West Virginia Watercolor Society, Dick Blick, and Camden Clark Medical Hospital. Thanks to the generosity of these sponsors, the WVAEA will be able to award students and their art educators prizes totaling close to $5,000 at the YAM Prospectus Competition.

"The support from our sponsors is invaluable in nurturing the artistic growth of our students and recognizing the dedication of our educators," said Dr. Jeffrey Grubbs, President of the West Virginia Art Education Association. "We are deeply grateful for their commitment to arts education in West Virginia."

The WVAEA State Youth Art Month Exhibit serves as a testament to the vibrant arts community in West Virginia and the importance of fostering creativity and artistic expression among our youth. The association looks forward to continuing to support and celebrate the artistic endeavors of students and educators across the state for years to come.

YAM Awards Ceremony & Portfolio Review: Celebrating Young Artists and Art Education in West Virginia will be held: March 9th, 2024 , Time: 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM, Location: Parkersburg Art Center

The West Virginia Art Education Association (WVAEA) is delighted to announce the upcoming YAM Awards Ceremony & Portfolio Review, scheduled to take place on March 9th, 2024, at the Parkersburg Art Center. This event will be a celebration of the creativity and talent of young artists across West Virginia, as well as an opportunity for students to receive valuable feedback on their artwork.

From 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, several esteemed faculty members from West Virginia College and University Art Departments will be present to conduct portfolio reviews for high school students. This presents a unique chance for students to showcase their portfolios and receive constructive feedback from experienced professionals in the field.

Following the portfolio review session, the YAM Prospectus Award Ceremony will commence from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on the 3rd floor of the Parkersburg Art Center. During this ceremony, we will honor the winners of the 2024 YAM Prospectus Competition and WV Flag Competition. Winners and their teachers will have been notified in advance, and we encourage them, along with students, parents, and teachers, to join us for this special occasion.

"We are excited to recognize the exceptional talent and hard work of our young artists through the YAM Awards Ceremony," said Dr. Jeffrey Grubbs, President of the West Virginia Art Education Association. "This event not only celebrates their achievements but also highlights the importance of art education in our state."

The YAM Awards Ceremony & Portfolio Review promises to be a memorable and inspiring event for all attendees. We look forward to welcoming students, parents, teachers, and members of the community to join us in honoring West Virginia's young artists.
