Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County

We were excited to participate in the Back to School Bash with Spirit of Giving at Village Academy. The Literacy Coalition provided more than 450 books and reading resources to help students start the school year ready to read and learn!

We also connected with families interested in our Village Readers Family Education Program, offering free evening adult ESOL classes, one-on-one tutoring, and literacy enrichment for children. Together, we're building stronger readers and stronger families.

A huge thank you to Carina Rocco, a student at Jupiter High School, for organizing a National Honor Society book drive that collected an incredible 700 children's books for the Literacy Coalition! 📚💙

The daughter of former Literacy Coalition Board Member Nicole Rocco, Carina is continuing a wonderful tradition of giving back to the community. Thanks to her leadership and the generosity of her fellow students and supporters, hundreds of children throughout Palm Beach County will receive books to build their home libraries and inspire a lifelong love of reading.

We are so grateful to Carina and everyone who contributed to the success of this amazing book drive. Thank you for helping us put more books into the hands of young readers!

Creativity and literacy came together in a fun and inspiring Read→Create→Connect lesson! Students learned about young artist Joe “Doodle Boy” Whale, who turned his passion for doodling into a partnership with Nike at just 12 years old. After reading about his journey, students designed their own imaginative sneakers on paper before bringing their creations to life on mini sneaker keychains using Sharpies and fabric markers. To continue the inspiration at home, each child received a copy of "Bad Food: Game of Scones", illustrated by Doodle Boy. Through reading, creativity, and hands-on learning, students discovered that their ideas can take them far! 🎨📕❤️

A big thank you to Dr. Lauren Malter and the students in American Heritage School's Leadership and Community Service class for helping prepare books for our Early Literacy Book Distribution program! The students volunteered their time to place stickers in hundreds of books that will soon be distributed to children throughout Palm Beach County.
