The FIDE (International Chess Federation) is the global governing body of chess, responsible for setting international standards, organizing world championships, and supporting chess education worldwide.

Growth, progress, and exciting new beginnings!

🌼 A Season of Big Achievements

Time flies fast and since our last newsletter, so much has happened!

In December, Ms. Maria traveled to New York to attend a major chess conference hosted by the Kasparov Chess Foundation. During this event, she connected with leaders from:

* The National Scholastic Chess Federation
* Chess in the Schools
* FIDE
* And many other influential figures shaping the global chess landscape

Our mission? To build collaborations, pursue accreditations, andβ€”most importantlyβ€”bring chess into schools as an elective subject.

And it paid off.
🌟 March is the month Leader Learning Center becomes officially FIDE Certified!
This milestone will open doors for:

* Enhancing our school programs
* Expanding into additional community centers
* Building competitive scholastic teams
* Growing our presence in the national chess community

Coach Shandar is not only an experienced chess player but also offers tutoring in all levels of math, including pre-algebra, algebra, and trigonometry. We continue our tradition of recognizing outstanding students with our Queen and Knight of the Month awards. Each group celebrates both a boy and a girl who stood out for their behavior, respect, and dedication.

At the same time, a few students were specially acknowledged for encouragement, as a way to inspire them to keep growing and improving their behavior. Every child has the chance to shine, and we love seeing their progress!

Although tournament participation is not mandatory, we’re excited to begin preparing our strongest players to represent their schools and community. ***For those planning to join any of the tournaments, we strongly recommend letting us know ahead of time.***

Tournaments come in two types:

Rated – Officially sanctioned by the US Chess Federation (fees go directly to them and the event organizer).
Unrated – Local, friendly competitions for experience and growth, organized by Leader Learning Center. *** A small fee may apply just to cover logistics.***

πŸ† Tournament Simulation
We’re excited to announce that Leader Learning Center will begin hosting our own chess tournaments for students from all the schools we serve!

Our first tournament is scheduled for Sunday, October 26th, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Students will play five rounds, each lasting 25 minutes, with a snack break in between.

This will be an unrated practice tournament, designed to help students prepare both logistically and psychologically for the upcoming rated tournaments. During the event, students will:

* Gain first-hand experience in tournament play
* Practice using chess clocks
* Learn to record notations
* Compete with peers from other schools

This is a family- and friends-friendly event, and all kids are welcomeβ€”even those who aren’t currently enrolled in our chess club.

Starting this summer, Leader Learning Center will be offering enriching and engaging chess programs as part of Wellington’s community programming. This collaboration allows us to bring our expertise in education, strategy, and creativity to even more children and families in the community we love.
